Greening your life starts with you!
 Spring is in full effect. Now is the perfect time to go to your local
farmer's market to buy and eat green. Organic foods are grown
by farmers who do not use pesticides or fertilizers during the
process of growing fruits and vegetables. Organic meats and
dairy are produced when livestock are not fed products
containing chemicals or pesticides.
 Green Snacks are Great For Kids – Apples, oranges, carrot sticks,
pears, spinach, salads, soft boiled eggs, yogurt, nuts, grapes,
raisins, granola.
 Water and natural juices are a much better choice above sodas
and sugary drinks

4. Water
Waste Not, Want Not
You can save gallons and gallons of fresh, clean water each day by simply
following some easy tips
 Collect water in a bucket while you're waiting for the shower water
to warm up. Collect rain water in a bucket from your back yard too.
Use the recycled water for plants, cleaning up or washing the car
 Install a low-flow showerhead. You can save up to 2.5 gallons of
water per minute
 Spend less time in the shower. Fill your bath tub to half full to save
on water. (FYI – Taking a bath uses 35 to 50 gallons of water on
average)
 Don’t run the water while you shave or brush your teeth, saving up
to 2.5 gallons of water per minute
 Change household faucets to low faucet accelerators, saving up to 3
gallons of water per minute

5. Water
 Clean and pure water is one of earth’s treasures we take for
granted by squandering our water supply. Running water
wastefully, leaky pipes, running hydrants, and more, all contribute
to waste of our water supply.
 Do you know that the demand for fresh, clean water has increased
three times the rate of population growth.
 Do you realize that water scarcity affects 4 out of every 10 people,
globally?
 Did you know that people in 7states in America experience a water
shortage every day; caused by drought due to low rainfall and
climate change

6. Green Basics:
 To save on energy check your home’s insulation ; Re-insulate
areas where there are drafts.
 Consider installing solar panels as your home’s energy source.
 Consider a tank-less hot water heater to save up to 40% in
energy costs
 Conserve Paper. Save single-sided pages for notes, and print
only what you need to print. Print and copy on both sides of
the page whenever applicable. Think PAPERLESS
 RECYCLE: Put your aluminum cans, plastics, glass, into the
recycle bins for disposal. Do the same with cardboard,
magazines and newspapers

7. Reusable
Recycling is a big part of going green.
 Use your own reusable water bottle at work, at home, at play. Make sure
bottles are phthalate-free & BPA-free if bottles are plastic; although
stainless steel water bottles are best!
 Donate computers, printers, furniture, clothing, toys and school supplies.
Recycle used cell phones and chargers, printer cartridges and batteries.
Most manufacturers have programs that accept recycled office supplies
 Walk or ride a bike to school or work; as long as the weather permits.
Walking and bike riding cuts down on fuel usage as you exercise more
 Use reusable bags for grocery shopping, packing lunches, carrying fruit
and snacks

8. Be Green, Keep it Clean!

 Do You Know that paper towels create a lot of waste. If you
must use them please compost. It is greener to use a cloth
towel or cleaning cloth and throw it in the wash.
 Believe it or not cleaning up after your dog is green. Leaving
animal waste on the streets is a big problem. When the waste
is rinsed away, harmful bacteria in the waste can get into drains
and find its way into the water supply.
 Ditch those high priced chemical laden brand cleaners and go
green by using vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to keep surfaces
clean

9. What is your Carbon Footprint?
 Go to CarbonCounter.org to calculate your carbon foot
print. Then decide to do something about it. It's not
about making drastic lifestyle changes.
