1. We produced three finished tasks. These include our music video to the song ‘Dog Days’ by Florence and the Machine, our digi pack and our magazine advert. These are all based on real media products that are available. We used existing forms of media like video, magazine and cd digi packs but we develop them. We didn’t challenge these in terms of changing and developing the form of the product, we instead applied creative thinking to make the output as compelling and interesting as possible. On the following slides here are some examples of the creative ideas and techniques we have used. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

4. Intertextuality Throughout our video there is a strong sense of intertextuality which is very noticeable because we focused on the film Pans Labrynth as inspiration. I feel these two pictures have the same theme as the girl is feeling lost and is exploring her way around.
5. Exhibitionism There are many female artist who use exhibitionism in their videos showing their strength, feminism and sexuality. I feel we haven't used exhibitionism in our video because our actress is not revealing anything or looking at the camera in a prerogative way. She is wearing a shirt over her dress and boots which give a more relaxed look.
6. How Effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary task? I feel the combination of my main product and ancillary task is very successful and effective. This is because there is a clear link between each of them. In our video we see her wearing a white floaty dress with minimal make up and natural hair. In our digi pack we see her wearing the same but with a little more make up and curly hair. Lastly in our magazine advert we see her in the same outfit as the digi pack as they were both produced in the same photo shoot. I feel by having her wear minimal make up and natural hair we are creating this boho-chic look that we are aiming for.
7. Comparing the Digi pack and the main production. These two pictures are very similar. This is because for our main production and ancillary tasks we wanted them all to show a clear link with subtle changes. The first picture is from our main production. Here we see her wearing a white dress with a white shirt and then we see her in the digi pack wearing a white dress with white flowers . Next we see her with straight red hair in the main production and then curly red hair in the digi pack.
8. Comparing the magazine advert and the main production In our main production we see her wearing a white dress which ends just above the knee whereas in the magazine advert we have dressed her in a more glamorous dress which finishes a bit higher and has light floaty sleeves. Once again her hair is more curly in the magazine advert than in the video but apart from that we have tried to keep them all similar which I feel creates a very effective look.
9. What have you learnt from your audience feedback? I conducted a focus group outside of school to get some feedback for our production. As a group we decided feedback was very important as we can gain information about likes and dislikes to help us improve our production and ancillary tasks to ensure they are successful. I asked them a number of questions and asked for their own comments at the end. I did this as a group to ensure no one was shy or pressured to talk and that they all felt confident to discuss with each other the pros and cons. I have learnt that this is a successful way of getting constructive criticism to help our product expand. (These photographs are not of my focus group but are a visual example).
10. Our Target Audience Our target audience was male and female teenagers and young adults aged 15-25 who take an interest in indie culture, fashion and romanticism. Our overall image in both our digi pack and magazine advert is slightly feminine. However males could be attracted to the images and therefore take an interest much like the girls would.
11. Feedback My focus group consisted of six people, four females and two males. These people were Holly Saxton, Lisa Hutchin, Jade Richmond, Staci Pell, Darrell Wood and Matthew O’Neill. They are all aged between 15 and 25. All of the comments they gave were positive, however I did ask them to think of some improvements we could make as it would help our team progress.
12. Did we target the right audience? I feel very positive that we have targeted the right audience. This is because in my focus group they all enjoyed them selves watching the video and looking at our ancillary tasks. They all said they would happily buy the digi pack from their local music store and that they would download the video off i-tunes if it was available. However the two males involved did suggest making this much more female orientated as one of them said ‘I enjoyed this very much however I feel I know more females who would buy this than males’.
13. Digi Pack feedback ‘ Good editing skills used for the front cover. I like the way the two photographs have been merged together’. ‘ I love the music notes on the back of the case. It looks really vintage but the front cover needs a title’. ‘ The collage in the insert was very well done. It has created a surreal- chic picture with the buttons and bird cage’. ‘ The different colours and textures really caught my eye’. ‘ I like this but I’m not convinced I like the back of the case as there is a plain white gap, but I’m not sure if it is supposed to be like this’. Magazine advert feedback I showed the group two pictures, our rough advert and our finish one and asked which was preferred. ‘ I prefer the rough advert because I feel it look chic and fits in with the other tasks’. ‘ I do not like the final advert because it looks boring, the writing is very plain and the yellow dots appear to be done on paint?’. ‘ I like the final advert because it’s clearer to read. But I do like the black and white as it gives an interesting effect’.
14. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation. For the construction and planning of our product we used a new media; a website called www.blogger.com . This enabled us to write a new post every day or every other day to write a detailed description of what we have done and to plan what we will do next. We can add pictures, videos and links to these posts. We can also customise our page, I have made my page vintage-chic to relate to my project.
15. For the research I used www.google.com to collect images. I collected these images to use for my blog page to show a range of ideas such as inspiration and genre. I also used this page to reserch current indie bands such as Florence and the Machine, The Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines, The Kooks and The Editors. I also used www.youtube.com to watch videos of other indie bands and collect style ideas.
16. I have also used magazines for research as I have gathered popular trends and styles and created a collage from them. I used magazine such as heat, glamour, cosmopolitan, vogue, Elle, new and grazia.
17. To film our production we used hand held cameras. These cameras record onto tapes which we can then upload from the camera to the computer. Throughout filming we often used a tri-pod to ensure stable shots. The cameras available were of a reasonable quality and allowed us to zoom in and out and get focused shots. Cameras
