onto the system, enrol onto the IT and computing
courses and complete an example quiz.

4. Virtual Learning Environment
All the IT and Computing units will be delivered
using the schools Moodle. This is a Virtual Learning
Environment (VLE) that you can access from any
location in or out of school. The VLE will allow you to
access the resources, tasks and support materials
that are used in class. You will also use it to submit
your work for marking and to receive your levels,
effort grades and feedback from your teacher. Other
subjects use it too!

5. Task 6: Logging On and Changing Password
There are 2 ways to access the schools VLE:
1. From the link on the school website -
www.cardinalallen.co.uk
2. Directly - vle.cardinalallen.co.uk
3. You will shortly receive the print out with your
temporary password on and will then be shown
how to change it
•Your password must be set to the same as your
Network password

Task 7: Explore Moodle
You have 5 minutes in which to explore Moodle.
After which you will be asked to share your
findings with the rest of the class and be given
some time to ask questions.
7. Task 8: Course Enrolment
Watch carefully as you are shown how to enrol
onto the Year 7 - IT and Computing courses
You are to enrol onto all of the IT and computing
courses that you are going to study this year. Your
teacher will provide you with an enrolment key.

8. Task 9: Moodle Quiz
Some Moodle courses will include online quizzes,
forums and choice activities. You will be directed
to a small ‘computers parts’ quiz for you to
complete.

9. Plenary: Moodle Text!
Using Microsoft Word compose a text message,
maximum of 160 characters to explain to a friend
what Moodle is. You will be shown where to find
the character count. Be prepared to share your
text!
