2. Discuss briefly with your group:
ï”What do you think when you see
someone begging on the side of the
road for money but then they get in a
car and drive away?
3. Now for a follow up:
ï” We will watch a follow up to the last video that we watched
ï” Hard Times Generation: Families living in cars (60 Minutes)

4.
5. Discussion:
ï” In the local paper there was a story about a homeless woman and
her son who were getting their Thanksgiving meal at the
Community Kitchen, which feeds the homeless. The woman had
been kicked out of her expensive home by her husband, and she
and her son were living in their Cadillac Escalade, but had no
home, and no money, and were forced to beg to eat.
ï” How does this story, and the video, make you feel about how we
often make assumptions about people?
6. What can we do?
ï” There are lots of ways that people try to help the homeless. But what
could we really do?
ï” Work with a group of 3 or 4 students to come up with a plan to end
homelessness in Chattanooga. Get detailed. What are the bonuses
to the plan? What are the drawbacks? Why would people agree to
this plan?
ï” You will present your plan to the class and the class will vote on who
has the best plan to end homelessness in Chattanooga.
