In addition to the ongoing input directly from Veterans organizations, in the fall of 2007, VAC asked the NVCAG to prepare a report that would identify the needs of CF Veterans not currently being met under the New Veterans Charter and recommend a course that would enable VAC to better serve its clients. The Department received the NVCAG report Honouring Our Commitment to Veterans and Families, The Living Charter in Action in October 2009
CanVet is the national provider of vocational rehabilitation / vocational assistance. All personnel providing Vocational Rehabilitation directly with our clients must have a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Human Services or a related field with a minimum of 3 years experience in the provision of Vocational Rehabilitation or “Current/active RRP, CCRC or CVE designation/certification. Staff with no RRP or CCRC must be supervised by someone who has current/active RRP or CCRC designation.
CF Health Services - c omprehensive health care comparable to that guaranteed to all Canadian citizens under the Canada Health Act. Mobility Assistance Program – Reimburses expenses for home adaptations, special needs equipment and appliances to address the needs of the member due to sickness or injury. Vehicle adaptations and home assistance services may also be provided through this program. CF Physical Rehabilitation Program –ensures that injured CF personnel have access to and receive the optimal level of physical rehabilitation based on the injury and available therapies. CF Soldier On Program – The program began in 2006 as a small scale partnership with the Canadian Paralympics Committee to enrich the quality of life of injured personnel through participation in sport. CF Injured Soldier Network – adds a social-support dimension to rehabilitation by providing peer partners to seriously ill/injured CF personnel CF Return to Work (RTW) Program – The objective of the CF RTW program is to help restore the physical and mental health of injured or ill members by helping them reintegrate into the workplace as soon as medically possible. CF Mental Health Programs - Mental Health Programs, which are specialized mental health services, are available to CF personnel. CF Members Assistance Program - A voluntary and confidential short-term counseling service to help members and family members who have personal concerns that affect their personal wellbeing and/or work performance. Services are available 24/7. Transportation and Travelling expenses of the next of kin if a member is hospitalized or is receiving treatment at a medical facility and where, in the opinion of the senior medical officer, on the advice of the attending physician, the presence of the next of kin is warranted, they may be reimbursed return transportation costs, accommodation, meals and personal expenses. CF Transition Assistance Program (TAP) – This program assists CF members by recruiting prospective employers in both public and private sectors to provide job opportunities to medically releasing CF personnel. CF Family Support - Under the Military Family Services Program (MFSP), the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) provides family members with services in four categories as follows; personal development and community integration, child and youth development and parenting support, family separation and reunion, prevention support and intervention.
All programs listed under VAC on the previous slide are available, these are the additional supports provided.
