Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Argument a
1. Argument A:There is a need for students to understand and be
able to construct geometric figures using a compass and
straightedge.
Yes - it is needed - You need to understand the basic principles of
geometry - Area, circumference, dimension, etc. - but these become
important depending on the field or career you go into -
Of course, obviously you'd think that an engineer, architect, or builder
would need these skills. But what about a contractor, a boat builder, a brick
layer, someone that pours cement, an interior decorator, a carpenter or
cabinet builder, a furniture manufacturer, a seamstress or carpet.flooring
layer. Even non-obvious jobs like a cake baker or decorator needs to have
the skills to determine support, displacement, etc.
Some jobs will use these math skills daily - some occasionally, but
knowing how to solve problems in the "real world" is what having a career
and knowing how to do your job is all about -
