4. How they work together Click here to watch the Inception trailer Film companies use lots of techniques to create synergy throughout their media products; synergy meaning one or more products which are cohesive and enhance each others performance. The main items used to create synergy are imagery, font and colour. If used well like the Inception example above, each media product will be easily identifiable and link well with each other, boosting ratings. ● Colour – In the Inception poster, the main colours are blue, red and white. The red title meaning it stands out from the rest of the complex image. In the magazine cover they have adopted this style, using blue as the main image and background but with red and white alternate text, keeping with the style. In the trailer it is harder to define the colours they used, but all the text is white and the main shots were cities and daylight scene which I feel translates the blues and greys. ●Imagery – The main image on both the poster and magazine cover is of DiCaprio (who plays the lead character) giving both products a major link. Also in the trailer he is the main focus, tying in well with items. Another image featured a lot is the city and bird's eye view of buildings. The trailer shows a lot of these as well as buildings being moved and built etc. so it’s clearly a strong image for the film. In the poster this is used as a background and blends into the characters image and on the cover they have cleverly built the buildings into the magazine title. ●Font – One simple sans serif font has been used to write the title in all 3 media products, each with a slight uniqueness. The poster is very simple, with all the fonts the same, just ranging in size and colour. The magazine cover have used the same fonts, keeping with the theme but added a gradient on the word inception making it seem metallic and special. In the trailer they have again used the same font, but added in a maze like pattern which mimics the idea of the buildings in the Total Film title. So I have explained how they work together, taking elements from each other and changing these slightly. They work well together and on their own, making them successful. I will now explain why our products work together!
5. Click here to watch our trailer I believe our 3 media products work well together, they link and relate as well as enhancing each other, similarly to the Inception example I just gave. ● Colour - Our 3 products have a strong colour scheme, black, white & red. In our poster the red is used for the title, making it stand out as well as having connotations for danger, blood, death etc. We have combined this with the white & grey tag line above and production details below which stand out from the backgrounds. On the magazine cover we have stuck to this colour scheme, using a combination of the three colours throughout the cover. In the trailer we have also used the black and white...but took out the red title and made it grey scale so it fitted better with the rest of our filming. Although we didn’t use the red title, it still all links due to the font we used. ● Font – As I mentioned above in both the poster and trailer we used our handmade Shallow Water title which is a key defining element of our film, linking them strongly. However I did not use this when making the magazine cover, as it would be done by a company writing about our film and not us a producers ourselves. We have used a small selection of fonts though, throughout the three products which link them together. ● Imagery – I think this is the most important part of the connection between the three items, obviously we have used our main character in each product, but all with a slight difference. On the poster we have used a shot from our filming, the character looking out towards the sea which doesn't reveal too much to the audience. Then on the magazine cover we have got the same character but a close up shot of her face. So instead of using two very similar images and linking them directly, the idea is that each part reveals a little bit more about the movie and characters, capturing the audiences attention. The trailer would then be released, showing more shots of the character, giving slightly more away, ready for the film with some very intrigued viewers. So even though the images don't link exactly, the exposing process makes it a bit more exciting for the spectators. I am really happy with the three products we produced and am glad they aren’t all clones, they each have individual features as well as linking back to each other and the main theme of the film. I also think they look very realistic and have potential to promote our film well.

7. Secondly we believe we should have limited our three products to only using one font for the small text and lettering. We did only have a small selection of fonts but if we had just one, the three products would really work well as a trio and be cohesive.
