Communication involves the sharing of ideas and information. The ability to communicate effectively in a way that others have no difficulty understanding what you are sharing or writing. Communications is a great field if you
have an innate desire to understand and synthesize what you hear into a message;
You have strong verbal and writing skills; You display a caring, helpful attitude; a desire to teach or inform; and a never-ending curiosity about what's going on around you
*When you study communication, you’ll learn the basic elements of persuasive speaking and writing, known as rhetoric. You’ll also learn to analyze the use -- or misuse -- of these elements. With this knowledge, you can dig beneath the surface of any speech to examine its structure. You’ll also be able to determine why it convinces some people and not others.
*Federal Government provides several jobs for communications majors as communication and public affairs are increasingly essential to any work place.
Public relations specialists handle organizational functions, such as media, community, consumer, industry, and governmental relations; political campaigns; interest-group representation; conflict mediation; and employee and investor relations. Public relations specialists must understand the attitudes and concerns of community, consumer, employee, and public interest groups to establish and maintain cooperative relationships between them and representatives from print and broadcast journalism. Public relations specialists draft press releases and contact people in the media who might print or broadcast their material. Many radio or television special reports, newspaper stories, and magazine articles start at the desks of public relations specialists. Public relations specialists also arrange and conduct programs to maintain contact between organization representatives and the public.
