2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.
3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this
could be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt
with problems with batteries, etc.
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down?
How did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have
worked better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you
changed your video? How/why?
4. TECHNICAL
Due to not having a camera to my availability , I had to use
my phone to film my video. I found third more effect for the
time I had to do it because I was already comfortable with
how to use it. This saved me time because I wasn’t messing
around trying to figure out and learn how to use the camera.
The other piece of equipment I used was a tripod I used this
because I struggle to keep my phone straight yet I didn’t
have a phone mount for the tripod so I had to tape my phone
on to it. This helped with shots where the actor are sat in the
same person yet in different clothing and also helps with lip-
syncing.
5. LOGISTICAL
All my locations for my video I used were all perfect and I
have no issues this was due to I only had one location which
would of coursed problem which was the skate park yet there
was no people there which was good because we didn’t have
random people in the back .the weather was also good with
no rain witch then helped because we could get it done
quicker and have no distractions. The other locations were
the car and also an apartments flat that the actors lived in so
we had no issues regarding that.
6. PERSONNEL
With my crew the first selection of people I wanted to have in
my video ended up not being able to help me this was
because at college there is a week in week off system. With
this the people I wanted in the video were in college on my
week off and with them doing levels they only had one day
off where most of them are working and that’s the same on
the weekends' ended up having to go to my sisters to shoot
and use her and her boyfriend tom in my video instead this
was good because we ended up getting it done quicker than I
would have with my friends because they wouldn’t of been as
interested in the video as my sister so this was the best thing
that could of happened.
7. PLANNING
With my planning, it helped me a lot due to the photos of the
types of shots I wanted. The main part of my planning which
helped the most was the inspiration I gained from my
research. I researched a lot of loyal corners music videos
and I do believe I took lots of ideas yet didn’t peruse them
ideas. In my planning I could of improved a lot on planning
the individual shots this Is because I struggled with thinking
of the shots of the day.
8. EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc.. in
this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc.
where possible
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment
• Pick notable moments in the editing process and discuss
them, what worked/didn’t work and why, how you adjusted
to problems. Discuss how you worked and what you
learned from the process
9. WHAT WENT WELL
[3 EXAMPLES]
The first thing which I think went well was my layout of the
video. This is because I did a follow through of the
characters day and the shots match's perfectly because
when filming I filmed from start to finish of the day so this
transferred on to the actual music video.
The second thing that went well was a transition I did where
one of the actors are sat on top of the ramp in a jumper and
also when the song says yellow the other actor drops in n
when its says yellow the actor sat down there t-shirts
changes to a yellow one. I was really happy with how this
came out.
The third thing that went very well was the lip-syncing I used
because it came out looking very good and like there actually
singing and I was very happy with the outcome.
10. WHAT PROBLEMS DID
YOU HAVE? [3
EXAMPLES]
The first problem I had was the colour grading on each video I
really struggled and getting the lighting the same in every clip
yet in the end after hours of trying I figured out a way to get
them all to look the same. This is a problem because of how
much it set me back.
The second problem I encountered was editing in general I
struggled a lot with getting to grips with the soft wear because I
haven’t edited to this existent before so I spent a lot of time
messing around and getting used to the soft wear which then
set me back.
The third problem I had was lack of shots. I had shot in my head
that I wanted to used and thought toyed have been enough for
the video yet I quickly realised they weren’t and had to use
through away clips to bump up the time of the video. So parts of
the video I am not happy about.
11. NEXT STEPS…
What are the main things you’ve learned from this project? Pick a
minimum of 5 to discuss…
1- I have learnt to edit to a higher existent within this project. This is
because I had to learn more about editing and also the soft wear.
2- I have learnt that shot selection is a massive deal within keeping the
audience intrigued in the video.
3- I have learnt that the longer you spend on production and getting the
shots and clips you need the better your video will be. I need to spend
longer on the [reduction sides of things.
4- I have learnt how to use premier pro better and I am abet ore
comfortable with the soft wear yet need to practice way more to get to
the level I want to be at.
5- I have learnt it doesn’t matter what equipment you have you can still
produce good work with it such as me not having a camera and having
to use my phone.
