2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting.
Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to
realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
4. MOOD BOARD ANALYSIS.
The mood board I have created has a lot of repetition. The main repetition within the mood board is the minimalistic
modern styles to the fanzines. I like this style a lot because I think it gives a young, stylish, contemporary feel to it. with
the fanzines having this feel I think it would appeal a lot towards my target audience. Another repetition I have within the
mood board are the colours. Each photo I have chosen has a very dull, monotone look to them with the odd bright colour
every now n then. This colour style appeals to me a lot, this is because I like the way how the monotone colours make the
fanzine look cool and modern without using a lot of bright colours. I also like this colour style because the fact that the
covers don’t use much colour it means the small bit of bright colour they use catches peoples eyes. The third repetition in
my mood board is the designs of the text and the inside pages. I love the spacious mixed sized fonts that most of these
fanzine have. It gives a different unique and cool look to the fanzine which then this style would match my topic and
intrigue my target audience.
My mood board will influence my final product a lot due to the fact I have enjoyed researching this specific style of
fanzine. With me loving this style of fanzine I will be able to gain so much inspiration and take a little bit from each one
to use in my end product. The styles of the font layout within all these photos have defiantly given me inspiration to use
a similar style in my product because I think it makes the product look professional and unique.
5. VISUAL STYLE.
This is a front cover mock up I
have made to represent the
style I am planning on going
with within my fanzine.
FONT.
Keep Calm
Exo
Roboto Slab
Riot Squad NF
Riffic Free
Uni Sans
COLOURS.
I have chosen to use these colours in my fanzine because I would
like a monotone feel with the text and the background because I
think this would look very stylish and follow the minimalistic style
I'm going. I have also chosen some vibrant colours to add a bit off
colours because I think add a subtle amount makes the colour
more eye-catching because it stand out more which then would
intrigue the reader.
I have chosen these styles of fonts because I wanted a
bold, strong font for my main font due to wanting to keep
along with the minimalistic style I am wanting. I want my
font to stand out and to be easy to read .
6. Content:
Photography Fanzine
INTERVIEW.
A big part of the content in my photography fanzine will be
my interview. I will be interviewing a London upper comer
photographer. I will be asking him questions on the
industry and the journey he's been on to get where he is
and where he is hoping to eventually end up.
QUESTIONS.
• What inspires you?
• What does photography mean to you?
• Why did you choose to pursue a career as a
photographer?
• Did you go to school to study photography?
• What is the one piece of photography gear that you
cant live without?
• What piece of advice would you give to an up and
coming photographer?
• Whose work has influenced you most?
IMAGERY.
The imagery I wanted for this project would
be a cool urban modern fanzine which would
appeal to the age range of 16-21.
I will do this by having appealing designs and
unique layouts which will intrigue my reader
to carry on reading.
I want to use photos from my professional
I'm interviewing and a couple of my own
photos as well.
