My Healthy Living
Plan
3. Healthy Eating and Exercising
According to Health Canada, eating well and being
physically active every day go hand-in-hand with
physical and mental health and vitality.
Canada’s Food Guide defines and promotes healthy
eating for Canadians. It encourages a variety of foods
from four food groups – Vegetables & Fruit, Grain
Products, Milk and Alternatives, and Meat and
Alternatives. It also includes specific amounts and types
of oils and fats.
A well-balanced diet provides the right vitamins,
minerals and nutrients to keep the body and mind
strong and healthy. Eating well can also aid in the
prevention of a variety of diseases and health
problems, as well as helping to maintain a healthy
body weight, providing energy and promoting a
general feeling of well-being.
4. Healthy Eating and Exercising
Not only does eating the right foods provide
you with many benefits, it also gives you a
newfound energy and reduced amount of stress
levels.
Exercise and activity helps protect you from
heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure,
diabetes, obesity, back pain, osteoporosis,
and help manage stress.
Using this information I will continue to
maintain a well balanced diet to influence
others and benefit the overall health of
myself. I also plan on continuing to
exercise regularly to keep down my levels
of stress that can be easily be built up and
left in my body as well as improving my
overall health.
5. Healthy Relationships
Unhealthy Relationship
-Your partner controls you and has to know
your every move.
-You feel unsafe with your partner and they
abuse you. (mentally, physically, sexually
ect.)
-Your partner makes you choose between him
or your friends and gets mad when you
spend time with them over him.
-Your partner makes you give up things you
love like sports or quit your job so you can
spend more time with them.
-Your partner gets mad at you for talking to
other guys even if they have been lifelong
friends.
-You or your partner hides important things
from each other and lack communication.
-Your partner holds you back, makes you feel
insecure and unhappy, and they bring out
the worst in you.
Healthy Relationship
-Your partner asks about your day but doesn’t
need to know every detail.
-You feel safe with your partner and know that
you can trust them and tell them anything
you need to.
-You maintain a well balanced relationship and
can still spend all the time you want with
your friends but still remember to leave
some time for your partner.
-You can still continue to do everything that
you did before dating.
-You can talk to who ever you like.
-You can communicate well with your partner
and discuss important things.
-Your partner doesn’t hold you back, they
make you happy and bring out the best in
you.
6. Healthy Relationships
Communication can make a relationship healthy or unhealthy.
Communication is essential in a relationship. It is something
that is not just given to you right away, it is a skill you have to
develop with your partner as you gain trust, respect, and honesty
with them. In my opinion, it is key to have communication in a
relationship to develop a strong, healthy bond but also, too much
communication can be damaging and unhealthy to your
relationship. Your partner shouldn’t have to know every detail
about your day as that can become a serious control issue that
only continues to worsen. Make sure to balance your
communication skills and tell your partner what needs to be said
but not every single detail on your day, by doing so it creates a well
balanced and healthy connection between the two of you.
Although it is important to be able to tell your partner things and
express your ideas, communication also involves open ears to what
your partner thinks or has to say as well. Be honest with your
partner, it is a very important way of communication as they will
have a hard time trusting what you have to say if you are not. Also,
sometimes people have a hard time finding the right words to
bring up a topic, if you see your partner tense or at unease, sit
them down and try to talk about it with them because tension is
an unwanted choke hold on a relationship that you may not even
realize is holding you back as a couple. Remember, communication
is essential but too much is unhealthy, you must uphold a strong
balance with your partner to continue to maintain a healthy
relationship.
8. Healthy Relationships
In conclusion, healthy relationships are not something
developed overnight, they consist of trust,
communication, chemistry, and an inexpressible bond
of compassion that people use the word love to
describe.
For my future reference, I understand the
importance and significance of maintaining an
healthy balance between the things I love to do, my
friends and family, and my boyfriend.
It’s important to remember the best way to solve
an unhealthy relationship is to get out. Seek the
help of a friend, family member, or even a
professional that you can reach in a series of
hotlines or clinics in your area.
9. Drug and Alcohol Abuse
What is Drug Abuse?
A patterned use of a drug in which the user
consumes the substance in amounts or
with methods neither approved nor
advised by medical Professionals.
Drug abuse can affect anyone and can
sometimes take the people we least
expect.
It can control our lives by making everything
we do revolve around getting the drug.
People do drugs for many reasons, some
include: -influenced by friends at party
-used as an anti-depressant
-used medication to help with pain ect.
-family members also do it so they may think
its okay then
-to get attention
Effects of Drug Abuse
While each drug produces different physical
effects, all abused substances share one
thing in common: repeated use can alter
the way the brain looks and functions.
Depending on the drug, there are many spots
within the body in which can be affected
by drug abuse such as heart failure, kidney
failure, and other serious life-threatening
conditions.
10. Drug and Alcohol Abuse
What is Alcohol Abuse?
A psychiatric diagnosis describing the
recurring use of alcoholic beverages
despite its negative consequences.
Alcohol can act as an anti-depressant and is
found to relax people which is why it’s so
often abused by many.
Effects of Alcohol Abuse
Alcohol is extremely hard on your liver and
kidneys. When a certain amount of
alcohol enters your bloodstream, you can
get alcohol poisoning which can be deadly.
Alcohol can also interfere with the signals
being sent out of your brain which makes
your thinking foggy.
Alcohol can change you into someone you
aren't by the way it effects your thinking
which can cause fights and many
problems within your personal
life, career, and family.
11. Drug and Alcohol Abuse
Root causes for teens to participate in the use of drugs and
alcohol.
In today’s society, there are many issues involving teen’s
use of drugs and alcohol. There are various influencing factors
for such occurrences as well. As we all know, peer pressure is
one of the leading concerns to drug and alcohol consumption
in teens and many think that doing drugs and alcohol along
with the crowd will help them fit in better and be cool.
Although peer pressure is a main concern, there is much more
contributing factors. Teen’s minds work in a way that if
influencing factors in their lives such as their parents or older
siblings do something bad, it’s okay for them to do it. Because
of this, many teens with parents with drug and alcohol related
abuse are more susceptible to consume such things thinking
that it’s okay. Also, the hormone changes that teenagers go
through can be quite dramatic, causing teens to be overcome
with depression and anxiety. Substances like drugs and alcohol
can be used as a temporary anti-depressant, although in the
end it just digs you into a deeper hole.
12. Drug and Alcohol Abuse
The best way to avoid the harmful effects created by drugs and
alcohol is to just reject the offers presented to you.
The effects that radiate on to all
other aspects of your life when
you abuse drugs and alcohol are
countless.
Destroyed friendships
Destroyed relationships
Destroyed families
Destroyed health
Destroyed career
Destroyed life
...
13. Sexually Transmitted Infections
Sexually transmitted infections (also known
as STIs for "sexually transmitted infections")
are infectious diseases that spread from
person to person through intimate contact.
STIs can affect guys and girls of all ages and
backgrounds who are sexually active.
Unfortunately, STIs have become
common among teens. Because
teens are more at risk for getting
some STIs, it's important to learn
what you can do to protect
yourself.
STIs are more than just an
embarrassment. They're a serious
health problem. If untreated, some
STIs can cause permanent damage,
such as infertility (the inability to
have a baby) and even death (in the
case of HIV/AIDS).
14. One reason STIs spread is that people think they must have sexual intercourse to become
infected. That's wrong. A person can get some STIs, like herpes or genital warts, through skin-to-
skin contact with an infected area or sore.
Another myth about STIs is that you can't get them if you have oral or anal sex. That's also
wrong because the viruses or bacteria that cause STIs can enter the body through tiny cuts or
tears in the mouth and anus, as well as the genitals.
STIs also spread easily because you can't tell if someone has an infection. In fact, some people
with STIs don't even know that they are infected. These people are in danger of passing an
infection on to their sex partners without even realizing it.
Some of the factors that increase a person's chances of getting an STI are:
Sexual activity at a young age The younger a person starts having sex, the greater his or her
chances of becoming infected with an STI.
Lots of sex partners People who have sexual contact — not just intercourse, but any form of
intimate activity — with many different partners are more at risk than those who stay with the
same partner.
Unprotected sex Latex condoms are the only form of birth control that reduce one's risk of
getting an STI. Spermicides, diaphragms, and other birth control methods may help prevent
pregnancy, but they don't protect against STIs.
Sexually Transmitted Infections
15. Sexually Transmitted Infections
Most important fact(s) that people need to know about condoms.
If you are considering having sex, you should without a doubt
use a condom. What many people don’t know is that birth control
does not protect against STI’s and STD’s, condoms, latex condoms
are the only form of birth control that reduce one's risk of getting
an STI. Spermicides, diaphragms, and other birth control methods
may help prevent pregnancy, but they don't protect against STIs.
Don’t be fooled by your partner if you think it doesn’t look like they
have a STD or STI, many people can have them without even
knowing, the best thing to do is get them to go get a pelvic
examination. You should also be aware that condoms do not offer
full protection against pregnancy, there are many risk factors
involved such as the condom breaking and if you are going to have
sex you should always have another form of birth control such as
the pill.
