2. About the city
Terrassa is a city of
approximately 210.000
inhabitants that is to
twenty kilometres of
Barcelona. A surface of
the city has 70' 2 km ²
and this is in the south of
Sant Llorenç del Munt's
clump.
3. History
The Roman Empire
The first news of the current
Terrasa comes of the epoch of the
Romans, who founded Égara's city
on a former Iberian settlement of
which they have found some
remains, as coins. Also they have
found paleolithic remains
concerning Vallparadís's torrent,
near where nowadays there is the
monumental Set of San Pere's
churches of Terrasa.
4. More History
- Industrial Revolution During the 19th century Terrasa it
was one of the Spanish cities where
the industrial revolution had a major
incident, with a great number of
factories and industries dedicated to
the textile. Nowadays still perviven
many modernist buildings of that
epoch, as the Vapor Aymerich, Amat
i Jover, current Museum of the
Science and of the Technology of
Catalonia(1907), the Masia Freixa
(1907), the Casa Alegre de Sagrera
(1911), the building of the Town
hall (1902), the Gran Casino (1920),
the Teatre Principal (1920).
5. Important sites
Castell-Cartoixa Vallparadís The first mention of a fortification near
Vallparadís's torrent is in a document of
1110, when Berenguer de Sanlà and his
wife Ermessendis, bought the count of
Barcelona Ramon Berenguer III, a few
lands to construct his lordly residence.
Vallparadís's castle belongs so to this
family that adopted Tarrasa's surname
until 1344.The former castle turned into
farmhouse, was acquired in 1852 by the
family Maurí that yielded it in 1947 to
the Town hall of the city. The council
realized an intense campaign of
restoration and reconstruction of the
building that was chargeable to the
architect Alexandre Ferrante y Miquel
Vilarrubí i Casanovas as chief of work. In
1959 one installed Terrasa's Museum.

Museu de la Ciència At the end of the 19th century,
three manufacturers egarenses
associated creating the company
Aymerich, Amat i Jover, to devote
itself to the manufacture of fabrics
of wool. In 1905 they decided to
construct his own steam. The
works directed by the architect
Lluís Muncunill, began in 1907 and
it was inaugurated the November,
1908. At present the mNACTEC is
there, but the building continues
being a recollection of this golden
epoch that was the Modernism.
