So I wanted to scaffold a
proof of concept lesson
using social media
to connect & build presence.
In the open,
outside
the LMS.

GOAL: Experiential,inclusive learning
I started with a #hashtag
#
Hashtags…
•  Collate all contributions with the same
letter / number combo, no matter where
in the world they come from
•  Operate as a rolling list of those
contributions, with newest at the top
•  Allow ppl in different locations but with
similar interests to connect & to amplify
each others’ contributions
I chose Twitter as the platform
(Lupton, 2014)
A # needs something to talk
about in order to invite
participation: I chose an article
with wide appeal & multiple
threads
& layers.
A # also
benefits
from
built-in
critical mass to work as an
experiential proof-of-concept
of networked participation.
My PLN at work –
4 teachers in 3 countries. 3 days.

& conversations
People shared ideas
People shared practices
People shared stories
…and problems, lessons,
& solutions
People offered reflections
from outside
I offered reflections on
Twitter conventions
Learners offered very
positive evaluations…and
some of the 60% are still
using Twitter a year later.

ongoing, at-home
