  2. 2. How do you attract new Truck Drivers into the industry? Things NEED To Get Better!
  3. 3. • The pay and conditions do not reflect the legal responsibilities of the Truck Driver • Low pay is being addressed – slowly – but over regulation is not • A report was commissioned in the UK almost 20 years ago that showed – just by placing the key into the ignition, NOT even starting the truck – a Truck Driver is liable to over 2,000 offences…and rising! • North American Truck Drivers will be equally liable • It is unrealistic to believe that Truck Drivers will know the full breadth of these legal responsibilities and so will always be exposed to prosecution from over vigilant authorities It needs to be Trucking attractive!
  4. 4. • The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations “Pocketbook” is almost 600 pages long! • The legislation demands simplification to attract new drivers into the industry • Companies will have to accept more responsibility from the Truck Drivers that they manage • New technology will help, especially in terms of Hours of Service regulations where the Drivers time can be more accurately monitored It needs to be Trucking attractive!
