1. TRiNO
Triple stage nano-filter unit for holistic
purification of water.
An unique water filter for community use, proposed by
Richa Pandey and Kartik Trivedi .
“In the new century we may see wars over water, rather than over oil, and
that is not an exaggeration.”
Kofin Annan, 2001
(then, Secretary General UN)
2. Problems?
Available fresh water is less than 100,000 cubic
kilometers.
Stable source of water is around 14,000 cubic
kilometers.
Estimated use is about 5,000 cubic kilometers.
No clean water for 1/3rd of global population.
Around 3 Million people die due to drinking of
unsafe water or become permanently disabled.
Most of the suffering population does not have
electricity.
3. Solutions!
Water purification system for community.
A self sustainable system.
An easy to use and maintenance free unit.
A system that can be modified as per local needs.
A water purification system that can remove
particulate, chemical and biological impurities.
4. TRiNO
The solution.
TRiNO, a healthy way to deliver potable
water for masses.
TRiNO is a triple stage system
involving:
First Stage: for removal of
particulate matter.
Second Stage: for removing
chemical impurities.
Third Stage : for removing
biological impurities.
Use of photovoltaic cells for power
supply.
5. First Stage of TRiNO
First stage is for particulate
impurity removal. (Prefilter)
First filter is made up of
electrospun polysulfone fiber.
Capable of removing impurities
of size up to 2 micrometers.
Thermally and chemically
stable.
High porosity, surface area and
loading capacity.
Helps increasing life of
membranes lower down in line.
6. Second stage of TRiNO
Customizable stage for removing chemical
impurities.
Includes filter to remove hardness from
water.
Does not remove necessary minerals.
7. Second stage of
TRiNO
Removal of Removal of Removing
Fluorine. Arsenic Hardness
(Polyacrylonitrile
(Alumina nanofibre) (ion exchange polymer)
membrane)
8. Third stage of TRiNO
• Removes bacteria and
viruses.
• Made up of polyurethane
cationomer (PUC)
electrospun fibrous mats.
• Quaternary ammonium
groups are added to
enhance entrapment.
• Follows entrapment as
well as elctrokinetic
capture.
• Chemically and thermally
inert.
9. Solar power for TRiNO
Since TRiNO requires water to be pumped in and flushed out it will
require electricity. Electricity will also be required for self cleaning.
Solar Power provides self sustainability.
Environmentally and socially beneficial.
Decentralizes the system and promotes micro financing and
entrepreneurship.
Highly reliable and lower life cycle cost.
Can be easily placed off the grid.
