Are you ready for it?
Traditionally, an ideal farmer owning a piece of land would invest his labour to produce food grain and clothing for himself and his family. He would secure a portion of his land and construct it to provide means of shelter and security that would enable the family to survive and prosper through different seasons, and also build storehouses to manage a continuous supply of necessities throughout the year.\n\nBut then, the cycles of nature are such, they instigate man to build “relationships” across “boundaries”. And the first possible relationship could be that the man who lives across the fence would like help while constructing a storehouse. Our hero in question could possibly say, “Look brother, I have some extra food grain this season that I would like to store away. If I help you build the storehouse, will you let me store my food grain in a small portion until next year?” And this neighbor says, “Why not?” and this would be perhaps the first exchange of services that happens.\n\nOnce the season is over, the neighbor sees “opportunity” in storing food grain for others, while our hero finds out that since this neighbor is interested in building more storehouses, he can produce more food grain on the land where he would have otherwise built a storehouse, and instead store it away with the neighbor, in exchange for help he would provide in building the storehouse. A few years down the line, when no more storehouses can be built, the exchange of value would happen in terms of a part of the food grain. At that point, the neighbor would realize that if he “specialized” in providing storehouse services, he would be able to provide the service to other neighbors as well, and in turn not need to use effort and land to produce food grain.\n\nThis would essentially bring around a web of people in a village who would be producers of a specialized product or service, creating a “soceity” of consumers who would consume part of their own produce and parts produced by others living in society.\n\nSoon, there would be realization, that this village can exchange its produce in terms of goods and services with neighboring villages to expand the “reach” of people to complimentary goods and services that would supplement their livelihood and generate means of commercial prosperity.\n\nSo long as the producer and consumer are in physical proximity to one another, and the exchange happens within a foreseeable amount of time, goods and services can be quantifiably exchanged between the participants of trade. However, when these exchanges needed to be carried out over larger geographic distances, covering time intervals spanning across the immediate future, people realized they needed “storehouses of value” that could be used in exchange of goods and services. Thus “currency” was born.\n\nAs the number of people involved in trade started to increase, they gave rise to competition. Two neighbors producing “similar” goods and services began competing for buyers. They did this by negotiating on price, features and quality of product or service. And the only way they could “advertise” about their product or service. This gave the consumer a “choice” and thus starts the motivation to “improve” products and services by re-investing profits from earlier trade. This is the beginning of “innovation”.\n\nOnce people started to advertise, they realized that they were able to reach a larger number of customers and have access to a wider range of products and services, which were available at a finitely larger distances. The power of advertising gave opportunity to a new sect of society called “merchants” who would specialize in trading goods and services over larger distances by means of travel.\n\nAnd the next iteration in development that happened was what we call “logistics”, wherein people started to use third-party service providers to transport raw material and finished goods.\n\nAs we expanded our vision to encompass every aspect of trade into designing and producing more complex goods and services, we have colloquially started terming organizations involved in trade as “businesses”.\n
From the first point where we discussed advertising, “media” itself was born. Media, defined as the plural for “medium” is collectively used to describe any system or platform that is used for expressing an idea or form of communication. The initial forms of media would include simple voice-based communication, wherein a trader would basically just “speak” to the customer in an audible pitch. These medium would undergo innovation at the hands of the communicator that would “enhance the communication” and “create impact”.\n\nAnd at the first instance, media would be used by the business to communicate with the client. However, after the producer-consumer relationships are established, the business will soon realize that it needs to integrate better within its various departments.\n
