Scrum is a great way to start practising Agile. But it's not perfect. Are you struggling to get stories tested within the sprint? I sprint planning taking hours and making everyone miserable? These are the slides from the session I presented at Agile Cymru 2016, describing the experience of one team that moved from Scrum to Kanban.

New feature development in agile should almost always start with a spike. Spikes help to define feature scope, uncover technical unknowns, and provide accurate estimates. In this session we will cover how to introduce spikes into your development cycles and show how Atlassian defines spike goals, focuses spike efforts, and makes feature development more effective.

Whether your business is a small, fast-growing agile shop, or a larger company that is trying to adopt agile methodologies, success hinges on a proper foundation of roles, responsibilities, and processes. In this talk, we’ll cover how Trulia tackles these areas, and discuss how JIRA Agile helped us expand our agile cycles.

“Going Agile” is a big cultural change for most organizations and it’s significance, impact, and effort required for successful implementation can often be underestimated. There are many benefits to be gained by adopting a more Agile approach, including quicker and additional feedback loops, more focus on value, and higher levels of collaboration. However, for Agile to succeed in the long-term it’s essential to set expectations up front and to balance the amount of change with the amount of disruption it will cause. In this session, we will look at how David Anderson intentionally built change management principles into his Kanban Methodology and explore other change management techniques the Agile community can leverage when helping organizations transition to Agile.

Looking at the tools and techniques used by the JIRA Design Team, we'll cover ideas and strategies that you can build into your own processes to collaborate as an experience-lead team.

How can a team of 65 developers build and rapidly ship a high-quality product with only six QA engineers? At Atlassian, we’ve introduced the Quality Assistance model that changes the developer QA mindset, and engages developers in exploratory testing so software is developed right the first time. After all, the cheapest time to fix a bug is before it's written. Join us as we walk through the theory, history, and practice of the model, while busting some of the myths about developers and QA. Reject the tradeoff of time, scope, and quality, and finally have your cake and eat it too.

Adopting agile ways of working, especially in large organisations, often seems incredibly hard and challenging. There is a natural resistance to change, too much complexity to deal with, too much organisational inertia. As a result, many experienced practitioners struggle to get traction and to drive change in the organisation as a whole. In this talk, you will learn about some of the key anti-patterns that often occur during transition to agile. This deck also covers approaches that can help you spot these anti-patterns and about strategies and techniques to avoid and/or remove them.

Agile is so much more than rituals and buzzwords, but often the real value is lost as organizations focus more on adhering to processes than the reasons behind them. Teams all too easily fall into the trap of following a prescribed method and deviate little from that original template. A continuous improvement approach implies a team is regularly questioning, tweaking, and iterating on its own version of Agile. Today's set of practices and processes should not be identical to those from a year ago.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.

A Transgenic animal is one that carries a foreign gene that has been deliberately inserted into its genome. The foreign gene are inserted into the germ line of the animal, so it can be transmitted to the progeny. Transgenic animals are animals that are genetically altered to have traits that mimic symptoms of specific human pathologies. They provide genetic model of various human disease which are important in understanding disease and development of new target.
