2. Blockchain … Notarization
• “Bitcoin is a Blockchain but Blockchain is not
Bitcoin”
• Notarization is the official fraud-deterrent
process that assures the parties of a
transaction that a document is authentic, and
can be trusted. (Source: Wikipedia)
• Apostille is a service & a 2nd layer protocol
that additional applications can be built on.
• Apostille focuses on using blockchain
technology to prove the existence of
documents in a dynamic blockchain setting.
5. Prove Authorship
• Use to show
authorship
• Share rights with
others
• Keep track of updates
and new versions
Novel Blockchain Notarization Use Cases
Achievement Certificates
• Awards can be made non-
transferable
• Can be certified by multiple
parties
• Identity and data can be public
or encrypted
Counterfeit Prevention
• Make a notarization for each
item
• Counterfeiters aren't able to
reproduce a certificate
• Notarizations can come
from officially branded and
named accounts
6. Two-Party Contracts
• Multiple parties sign and
upload the file
• Additional partners can be
added or subtracted
• Notes can be added
indicating the status of the
contract
Novel Blockchain Notarization Use Cases
Property Titles
• Add messages to show
repairs
• A full history of owners
can be seen
• Can transfer the
blockchain notarization
when a sale occurs
Logistics
• Track items with QR codes
attached to each package
• QRs not only hold account
info, but also messages
• Namespaces allow the
buyer to know exactly who
scanned the QR
7. How Does It Work?
Apostille utilizes core features of the NEM blockchain
technology.
Each input file is hashed and that digital fingerprint is
included in the blockchain.
A dedicated key pair is created for each input file. The
fingerprint of that file and any additional data can be
sent to that account.
Branded, Certified, Transferable, Conjointly Owned,
and Updatable Blockchain Notarizations
8. Apostillle Uses NEM´s Features
Document fingerprints, notarizations and re-notarizations
are transmitted using NEM’s messaging feature. Additional
notes can be added in encrypted or open formats.
Sharing, splitting, and transferring blockchain notarizations
are handled with NEM’s advanced multisig and multi-user
contracts.
Branding of notarizations is done with unique domain names
purchased on the NEM blockchain making sure no two
people can make a notarization using the same name.
Third parties can also make comments about the status of the
item notarized or updates on its repairs, amendments, and
registrations. Official, branded, and non-transferable tokens
can be sent to the notarized account certifying it.
9. One Great Service, Two Great Options
Public and private chains designed to meet
the specific needs of each business
Permissioned Chain
• Good for 1000's tx/s
• Pay no tx fees
• Can be anchored to the
public chain
Public Chain
• Anybody can use it
• DYI notarize on your PC
• Immutable and
decentralized record
10. • Enter your
password, choose a
description, drag
and drop your file to
be notarized and
click send
• Your Apostille
certificate and
stamped file will be
given to you in a
zipped file as a
receipt
Create
11. • Drag and drop
and look for
confirmation
whether the file
has been
notarized or not
• Any wallet can
verify any file as
long as the file is
in the user’s
possession
Audit
12. • Use NEM’s
Namespaces to
buy a unique
domain name
• Now two people
can not use the
same brand name
to notarize
documents
Brand
13. • Re-notarize the
file to get a new
file fingerprint
timestamped on
the blockchain
• Or send notes
to the Apostille
account to
represent
amendments
status updates
or changes

14. • Transfer accounts
to pass control of
the Apostille
account to
another user
• Or use NEM’s
multisignature
and multi-user
contracts to split
ownership of an
Apostille account

15. • Use NEM’s
mosaics to send
certification
mosaics or assets
to a notarization’s
account.
• Or use a
notarized account
to create its own
assets and send
those to other
accounts.
Add Value
16. • Monitor your
account to make
sure your
notarizations
are in order
• Track messages

Documents can represent objects, computer files, ideas, contracts and more. Practically anything.
But we just don’t prove they exist. We put this proof in a live system that can then be Branded, Certified, Transferable, Conjointly Owned, and Updatable Blockchain Notarizations.
This has been a dream of many people since the start of the blockchain, but we have made it happen for the first time in a working service.
Lets explain a little bit about blockchains and notarizations and then blockchain notarizations.
Know Your Customer is famous, but lets talk about Know Your Object.
Poof of Authorship = Proof of Existence and this is where most other services start and stop. But we are offering even the ability to not just put a proof of a document on the web, but we can update it, share the rights, and more. Use case =
Counterfeit Prevention can now be made all but guaranteed. Anybody making a fraudulent product will not have a notarized certificate of ownership, and if they tried to fake it, they are leaving full evidence of their fraud on the blockchain that can be easily audited and traced back to them. Use case = LuxTag, a company in Malaysia I will introduce later.
Achievement Certificates are already being done by many different universities, but we offer those to be branded by a university under its namespace, and even certified by third parties such as the government board of education
Property Titles include things like cars. Use case = car repairs and oil changes can be recorded and tracked. So it is isn't just a certificate to represent ownership of a car, but a full history of everything related to the car. Even insurance and taxes paid. Even starting the car or killing it with a secure on chain transaction
Multiple party contracts can now be issues so that both parties are signing off on the creation of a notarization or amending it.
Logistics takes us beyond just “blockchain notarizations” but allows the Apostille Service to do more. We can now make an agnostic back end that can work with any and all logistic companies in a way that they can share data but not compromise their security or make difficult updates to their current systems.
NEM is Amazing. I new re-imagining of what an ideal blockchain would look. It has been in development for almost 3 years and has been launched for almost 2 years by 4 full time enterprise level professional developers, not just some hobbyists. It is tried and proven technology with an excellent track record. It also has lots of new features. It was the first with multisig contracts, the first with a new kind of namespaces, it introduced highly customizable assets that can have adjustable quantities, levies, and adjustable transferable rights. It has spam protection, node reputation to ignore malicious or faulty nodes, and a new proof-of-importance consensus that is much more environmentally friendly and much more efficient to operate than PoW making the NEM network light, fast, and easy to maintain with all these rich features built in. I really suggest if you are interested, please go to the NEM website.
For Fingerprinting…… This has been done for a long time. Proofofexistence.com started as far back as 2012. Then there are others like stamp.io or cloudstamp.io in Korea. There is even a whole chain dedicated to fingerprinting documents named Factom. And it has long been a dream for many of these services to do more than just fingerprint, but to make these fingerprints in a live ledger system. In fact, many have tried, but only one has succeeded!
Sharing, splitting, and transferring blockchain notarizations can be done both to an initiating account before it makes a notarization or can be done to the file’s HD account.
A lot of people say private chains are
Too new
Too powerful
Too complicated
Too much disinformation
They are real. And they can be designed for high throughput, to specifically meet government and organizational requirements.
I have always been amazed with the idea of Bitcoin and public chains. I was mining Bitcoin on my GPU in 2012 and selling Bitcoins for $10. At first, I was very skeptical of private chains and if they would work, but now I see they are going to be really useful and important with regards to many industries and governments.
One of the biggest complaints about private/permissioned chains is that they are able to be tampered with or edited so why not just use a database, but actually databases can be hacked and can be manipulated so they are definitely not secure. But a private chain can have its blockheaders anchored to a public chain. This means that a private chain that has headers that match the anchored hashes, has just as much as immutability as the public chain. This process is not unlike how Counterparty anchors each transaction to the Bitcoin blockchain to secure its confidence when auditing.
We are happy to say we have creating and auditing down to a simple process. 1 minute to download the walled as single zip file, unzip it and click start. Log into your wallet, enter your password and drag and drop the file to be notarized or audited and click okay. We have worked really hard to get this as simple as possible and we think that we are the point now where regular uses can start to use something as complicated as blockchain notarization without having to go through 10 steps and multiple programs/platforms.
