Introduction
I can contribute to Discovery College in many ways. I would like to become a leader in
the Chess Club and I believe that I have experiences and ideas that I can use to teach the
game to other students. I would also like to organize junior logical puzzle sessions which
will help them to develop their logical skills and out-of-the-box thinking. I would like to
actively engage in science and math clubs as well as organizing various charitable
activities. I have taken part in many activities that help persons with disabilities and
children, and would continue to do so at Discovery College.
Become a leader in the Chess Club and organize clubs like a Puzzle Club
I have competed in many tournaments, including the Southern England finals and the
Delancey UK schools chess challenge 2013, where I won the title of Kent Suprema.
I am the leading chess player in my school and a member of the FIDE World Chess
Federation.
I would become a leader in the Chess Club and organize clubs like a Puzzle Club.
Become a leader in academic clubs like the Science club or start a new academic
club
At Blackheath Junior High School, Mr. Collinson recognized my interest in math and
science and put me in an accelerated program. I was promoted by two years to attend
Year-5 math classes while in Year-3.
At my current school, I have been encouraged by Mr. Stanhope to either solve an entirely
separate set of class work problems or mentor other students to understand various
problems they are finding difficult to solve. I think I am the only student in the class who
has been asked to do so.
2. I work hard in school and have been getting excellent marks. Based on the exams I have
taken, I am two years ahead against the UK national curriculum target levels for my age
group.
In Year-3, I read all seven volumes of Harry Potter. My reading interest ranges from
fiction (favorite authors: J.K. Rowling & Roald Dahl) to more serious reading such as
Malorie Blackman, Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein.
I would become a leader in academic clubs like the Science club or start a new academic
club like an Astronomy club.
Participate in school performances and athletic teams
I have completed grades 1 through 3 of the Associated Board of Royal School of Music
piano exams, with distinction in the grade 3 exam, scoring full marks in one of my
pieces.
I have regularly performed solo piano recitals in school musical evenings and achieved a
merit distinction in the Blackheath music festival in 2013.
I am learning to play the recorder and have routinely performed at my school, and also
played xylophone for the school junior orchestra.
I regularly perform on the school stage in school drama club performances.
I am a keen swimmer and have represented my school on numerous occasions.
I also represented my prior school’s hockey team in inter-school tournaments.
I would participate in school performances and athletic teams including school plays,
musical performances and the swimming club.
Organize charitable events
I organized a several charity sales at my previous school.
I organized a group of 4 girls and presented to our entire school to help “Canine Dogs”, a
society that trains guide dogs.
A few of my classmates and I arranged a knitting and bake sale during a fundraiser for
the NSPCC.
3. I was a member of East London Scouts Club and participated in various activities such as
beach cleanups, scavenger hunts, first aid lessons and annual Christmas marches.
I was the form captain in the student council for Year-3 and Year-5.
In Year-5, I was also the homework monitor as well as the environmental monitor and
was also responsible for reading stories to the Year-1 children.
I am a library assistant and help the school librarian with tasks like organizing, decorating
and advertising.
I would organize charitable events including fundraisers to help persons with disabilities
and children.
Conclusion
At Discovery Bay College, I would become a leader in the Chess Club. I would also
become a leader in academic clubs like the Science club and start new academic clubs. I
would participate in school performances and athletic teams including school plays,
musical performances and the swimming club. I would organize charitable events, like I
did at other schools, including fundraisers to help persons with disabilities and children.
Question Time
Act as if you’re already a student and you’re trying to start the clubs and initiate the
charity activities you mentioned. Try to engage them in a conversation about the
logistics… when and where can you hold the activities, what does it take to get a new
club approved by the school management, etc. Ask the interviewers which clubs and
activities the school needs, beyond the ones you mentioned, and what you can do to start
the clubs and activities.
