2. âProphet of the apocalypseâ is a YouTube documentary
created by âFashion industry broadcastâ, it talks about the
famous fashion designer Rick Owens and some of his clothing
designs, my product will be very similar to this as the main
subject matter of my documentary is also fashion. The
aesthetic of the specific sub genre of fashion I talk about will
have many similarities to this one, although the format wont
be the same, I am going to include mostly original footage
that I have captured myself rather than using pre existing
interview clips like this product does.
3. âEverybodyâs Everythingâ is a 2019 documentary film that
depicts and showcases certain aspects of Lil peeps life, career
and music. It is a video style documentary and includes lots of
previously unseen footage of the artist performing and
hanging out with friends. It is a very professional
documentary and adopts an informative style, there are
family and friend interviews that provide certain important
details and information. Upon closer inspection of this
product I have realised that I like a lot of the aspects within it
and have chosen to take inspiration from it for my own work.
I am going to take a similar approach in terms of the intention
behind the documentary, it intends to inform and educate on
a specific topic which is what I shall do as well.
4. âThe enduring mystery of Jack the ripperâ is a YouTube
documentary made by âLemminoâ. It depicts and explains the
events of the Jack the ripper murders, it is a very visually
pleasing product, Lemmino created all of the visuals used in
the documentary, he doesnât use all of the overused pictures
of the victims that everyone has already seen before, instead
he creates his own animated maps of Whitechapel and the
crime scenes. My product wont be similar to this one in terms
of subject matter as I am doing a fashion documentary, but in
terms of stylistic choices and editing style it will have some
similarities, for example, this documentary focuses on visuals
and artistic aesthetic.
5. Interview
One thing I enjoyed about conducting the interview was being educated on the other persons topic, I wasnât very aware
on certain aspects of the topic and hearing it from someone who had a clear passion/interest in it was quite informative
and interesting, this works both ways, I also enjoyed educating the other person on my own topic. I think we both
exchanged valuable and educational information, we discussed and also inputted our points of view on certain things and
where able to have a healthy discussion.
6. Research summary:
I conducted a large variety of research in hopes of finding out valuable information on documentaries for
me to potentially use in my own work. The rick Owens documentary that I researched offered me a lot of
insight into the industry I will be documenting from an accomplished designers point of view, this will
definitely help me take on more of an experienced approach when creating my product. The jack the ripper
documentary offered me with a lot of creative information, since Lemmino (the creator of the
documentary) took on a very artistic approach and created a lot of animated scenes, he also adopted a very
experimental editing style which I will also try and do with my production work. The lil peep documentary
has also influenced how I plan to go about creating my product, the way in which it implements interviews
throughout and provides information from different point of views seems like a good aspect to include.
Using this method there will be a wider variety of opinions and points of view, which I think is important
since the fashion industry is a very diverse space, so to embody that within my product seems like an
important thing to do.
