Choosing the appropriate meaning Dictionary gives not only the meaning of a word but also the meaning of idiomatic phrase (idiom) / expression . In a dictionary, idioms are shown at their important word . i.e. have egg on your face (You must look up the word “egg”.) have a nice day (You must look up the word “nice”.) a group of words that has a special meaning that is different from the ordinary meaning of each separate word. For example, 'under the weather' is an idiom meaning 'ill'.
