4. This year we are changing the way we assess your work and help you to improve. These are the key areas…………
5. There will be no more Attainment Levels– all pupils (Y7-11) will be assessed using GCSE grades You will get GCSE grades from Y7 From Y7 - we have worked out, based on your key stage 2 SAT’s and other useful information, what you are predicted to get at GCSE in year 11 Term by term, you will be able to track your journey towards your predicted grade……..

7. ……. You will not only have a GCSE PredictedGrade ……… you’ll also have a GCSE ChallengeGrade (at least one grade higher - and this can be raised further if you reach it)

9. You will also have a CHALLENGE grade (This is what you should aim for) You will be given GCSE grades from Y7 You will have a PREDICTEDgrade (The basic grade you should get) This will be on the homepage of your VLE

12. Marking Some interesting facts that have been discovered about marking…… Teacher comments above about 15 or so words are generally ignored by pupils If a grade is added to a teacher comment, the whole comment is generally ignored If a pupil is given a good grade for their work it has no impact on progress If a pupil is given a poor grade - progress is worse So….
13. We have therefore developed a new marking policy based on what works……. Teachers will use comment only marking. (Apart from some key assessments) Comments will clear, short and tell you how to improve
15. Self & Peer Assessment: This is a powerful tool to help you understand how to analyse your work and progress. Peer and Self-Assessment will be regularly undertaken in lessons as well as teacher marking.
16. Many pupils initially find comment only marking difficult as getting grades is interesting (When they are good!) However, we are committed to doing what works
17. You will still get GCSE grades for key assessments and occasional pieces of work
