Spring Grub Control
Grub Life Cycle
Good bugs, bad bugs! There are hundreds of different kinds of insects. Some insects are very
beneficial but grubs are not one of the insects you want in your lawn!
Animals digging up the lawn, crows congregating and pecking in the grass in spring after the
snow melts is a sure sign of grubs. On the one hand these animals are controlling the grubs, but
really they are just adding to the extensive lawn damage grubs create. Call L.C.S. for our spring
grub solutions or questions on how to treat yourself!
Grubs come up toward the surface to feed on grass roots in April and May. They emerge as the
adult form between May-July (May/June Bug, Japanese beetle, masked chafers)* and begin to
feed and mate. These bugs will lay their eggs in the turf that hatch into small grubs. These grubs
will feed on turf roots through October, depending on our temperatures. As temperatures fall the
grubs will in turn crawl deeper in the ground. Next year start the process starts all over! *Life
cycle does vary slightly depending on species.
DO IT YOURSELF OPTION!
Insecticide: Lawn seeder: Garden hose
1. Purchase a granular grub control product. Spring grub control should be applied between
April-June, depending on ground temperature
2. Adjust the lawn spreader to the proper setting according to the instructions on the
product.
3. Treat the border of the lawn first and then fill in the center. Walk at a steady pace and
make parallel passes to ensure even distribution of the granules.
4. Lightly water the lawn to soak the granules into the ground.
