This document provides instructions for students to work independently or in groups based on their level of understanding of river system concepts. Students are divided into green, amber, and red groups corresponding to high, moderate, and low levels of understanding. The green group focuses on explaining sediment transport processes and changing river valley shapes. The amber group reviews valley formation and annotates meander diagrams. The red group reviews prerequisite videos, labels landforms on a worksheet, and creates annotated diagrams of river features. The goal is for students to work at their own pace on knowledge and skills tailored to their current understanding.

Using page 17 in People, Places and Themes textbook explain
how rivers transport sediment in different ways,
Make notes about erosion, transportation and deposition from
pages 8-9 in OCR B textbook,
Use the Hjulstrom curve to explain how the river velocity affects
the processes occurring.
Exam question; Explain how the shape of a river valley changes
as it moves downstream. Use diagrams to support your answer.

8. Amber
Using OCR B textbook make notes on valley formation,
Using the meander diagram; shade areas of erosion and
deposition. Explain how the meander migrates downstream.
Use page 12-13 to help you.
Complete the meander and waterfall stage diagrams to show
how both features are formed. Use at least 3 stages and
annotate.
10. Red
Watch Prep/Homework videos and make notes about the
changing landscapes and the processes that affect the
different landforms. Use your book and diagrams to help,
Label the River Valleys worksheet with the features,
landforms and explain how the processes change.
Make annotated diagrams to show how meanders (p12),
waterfalls and gorges (p10-11) are created. Each would be
worth 4 marks.

Label and add notes to your River Profile sheet - A3 graph,
What happens where?
How do processes, velocity, land use and features change?
