These classes are based essentially on
construction methods and materials.
An approved non combustible materials is one

SELF CONTAINED BREATHING
APPARATUS
demand type breathing apparatus is being used
increasingly aboard merchant ships. Its popularity stems
from its convenience, the fact that it supplies the user
with cool fresh air, the speed with which it can be put into
service and its versatility.
the demand type apparatus gets its name from the
functioning of the regulator, which controls the flow of air
to the facepiece. The regulator supplies air “on demand”,
i.e. it supplies the user with air when he needs it and in
the amount his respiratory system requires. It thus
supplies different users with different rates, depending on
their “demand”.

New model demand type breathing apparatus
are being supplied with a positive flow to the
facepiece. The slight pressure in the facepiece
prevents contaminated air from entering the
facepiece and getting into the respiratory tract.
The positive air pressure lessens the critical
nature of the fit against the user’s face.

Rescue and Salvage Operation on Ships
Rescue of trapped crewmember and passenger is
an extremely important aspect of every fire fighting
operation.
Once crew members have gathered at their muster
station and are accounted for, a search for missing
person can begin
Passengers are also assigned a muster station and
lifeboat station and the officer in charge has a list of
passengers assigned to that station.

If the rescue attempt is delayed an attack could
pose the fire into an area where one or more
individuals are trapped.
A holding action maybe feasible while an alternative
route is used to make a rescue. The decision
involves the two fold problem of protecting lives and
protecting a vessel.
A delay in controlling the fire due to important
rescue attempts could result in an uncontrollable
fire, forced abandonment and loss of the vessel and
possibly loss of many more lives.

Two person extremities carry - more than one
person maybe available to rescue a victim who may be
either conscious or unconscious. One rescuer hold the
victim on the same way as the two arm drag. The other
rescuer faces the victim, stands between the victim legs
and hold one leg with each hand. Both rescuer then
