Your task is to create a Reality TV show and
produce a press pack for the show that will
be sent out to the media.
You have to complete several tasks in order
to create show, and to make sure that you
apply knowledge and skills that you may
have to use in the exam
First let’s look at an example of a press pack
(look at the X Factor press pack, what kinds
of things does it include?)

Who is going to be your target audience
demographic?
What channel is your show going to be
on? Why?

Explain the rules and format of the show here
are few questions to get you thinking:
- Does it feature real people, celebrities or
both?
- How long will a show/ the series run for?
- Is there an audition/application process?
- Is there audience interaction?
- Does it features experts?

Who is going to host the show? Why?
If you require celebrity judges who will they be?
Why?
What pleasures will your audience get from the
show? (Uses and Gratifications (we did this for
magazines see the sheet to remind you), can the
audeince affect the show)
What makes your show different from existing
shows? (draw some comparisons)
How will you attract your target audience? (e.g. spin
off show, competitions, advertising, marketing and
synergy)

Task 4 (Audience interaction)
How will you provide an element of audience
interaction?

How will you ensure that you can reach and keep

Task 5
Plan, design and draw a storyboard for the opening
sequence of your show, thinks about:
- Music?
- Voiceover?
- Use of images?
- Use correct media language (camera angles,
editing etc.)
Plan, design and draw on A3 paper the homepage
for the website of the show (annotate)

Look at some more press packs then you need to create your
own. Things to include:
Introduction to the show
Date the show starts
Information about any spin shows
Rules and Format of the show (include and interesting key
aspect of the show)
Production Company
Interactive aspects of the show
Host/ Judges information/ biography
Information on contestants or people featured in the show
Any revenue created and where the money goes
Information on sponsors

You can have lesson time and
homework time to complete this
project. The Press Pack can be
produced as a PowerPoint slide
show, make it as visually interesting
as possible but still informative

Complete a case study of a person
who became famous after
appearing on a Reality TV show.
