The Muslim emperor Shah Jahan ordered the
construction of the Taj Mahal.

the court architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori.
The Muslim emperor Shah Jahan (1592-1666)
ordered it to be built to pay homage to his
fourth wife and favorite, Arjumand Banu
Begum, better known as Mumtaz Mahal, who
died giving birth to the monarch's fourteenth
daughter.
