This document provides information about a contest for primary 4 students in Singapore related to the 49th National Day Parade (NDP) in 2014. The contest theme asks students to show appreciation for the pioneer generation and their contributions to nation building. Students are tasked with interviewing a family member or senior citizen about how they contributed, writing about how they were inspired, and submitting a drawing, photo, or description by May 2nd, 2014. Winners will receive experiences with the Red Lions indoor skydiving or walking on stage at the NDP celebrations.

2. Playing a Part—Our Stories
• National Day Parade (NDP) holds a special place in
our hearts.
• It is a time to celebrate all things Singaporean and
reflect on our journey as one people and one
nation.
• It is also a time to recognise the contributions of
everyone who has played and will play a part in
building Singapore.
3. Theme: My Pioneer, My Inspiration
Show appreciation to our *pioneer generation
for their contribution to the building of
Singapore.
Playing a Part—Our Stories
(*) Pioneers in this contest are defined as senior members of your family such as
grandparents, uncles and aunties and senior citizens in the community.
4. What you need to do….
• Interview someone from the pioneer generation on how they
have contributed to nation-building Example:
- Serve National Service (NS) as a citizen
- Grandmothers and aunts who took care of family members
- People who contributed to make the country a better place
to live in (eg. road construction, law enforcement, etc.)
• Write how their meaningful contributions have
inspired/motivated you and share how they can be our role-
models.
5. Submission of Entries
• All entries must be submitted in either:
- JPEG format for digital photographs with a
maximum size of 3 MB or
- A4 art paper for visual drawings/illustration
• Include also a short description of no more
than 50 words that tells the story and your
personal reflection of the theme
6. Attractive Prizes
• Indoor skydiving experience at iFly Singapore with
the Red Lions in June
• Walking down the stage with the Red Lions during
the NDP celebrations
• Tickets for four to NDP14!

Every year, the National Day Parade (NDP) holds a special place in every Singaporean’s heart. It is a time for us to celebrate all things Singaporean in all of us. It is also a time to reflect on our journey as one people and one nation and to acknowledge the contributions of everyone who has played and will play a part in building the Singapore that we have today and in the future.
Encourage students to appreciate the roles and contributions of our pioneer generation, in building Singapore to be the cosmopolitan city that we are proud to call home today.
