3. The Lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold. Also, the songwriter. Born
in July 31, 1981. Born in the town on Huntington, California, also
went to the Huntington Beach High School and had a young
punk band named “Successful Failure”. including the band
members “The Rev” and “Zachy Vengeance” He formed the
band now called “Avenged Sevenfold” in 1999. Soon after, The
Rev invited Synyster. Shadows says that he chose "M. Shadows"
as his stage name because he thought of himself as "the darker
character in the group”. Shadows possesses the voice type of a
high baritone, or what some call "honey in gravel", and is well
known for his distinctively gritty, rough and powerful voice as well
as occasional screaming.
In the DVD "All Excess," Shadows claims that everyone in the
band had been assigned to come up with a list of names, but
that only he had followed through. The name Avenged
Sevenfold, a reference to the Book of Genesis, was chosen over
Lips of Deceit, another Biblical reference.
4. Brian Elwin Haner, Jr. (Born July 7, 1981.), better known by his
stage name Synyster Gates or simply Syn, is an American
musician, best known for being the lead guitarist of the
American Heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. In the
Avenged Sevenfold Special Edition of Revolver magazine that
was released the same day as the Nightmare album, Gates
stated that he originally started out writing the song "So Far
Away" in honor of his grandfather. However, the song is now
primarily about Gates' former band mate, The Rev, who passed
away in December of 2009. On April 20, 2011, Gates won the
Revolver Golden God award for Best Guitarist along with band
mate, Zacky Vengeance. Avenged Sevenfold picked up
numerous other awards and delivered the headlining
performance of the night. His father, Brian Haner, Sr., also
known as "Guitar Guy," on Jeff Dunhams shows. Synyster was
born in Huntington, California. He went to Huntington Beach
High School with all the other members.
5. Zachary James Baker, (born December 11, 1981) better known by
his stage name Zacky Vengeance, is the rhythm
guitarist and backing vocalist for the
American metal/rock band Avenged Sevenfold.
attended Huntington Beach High School, and formed Avenged
Sevenfold there with M. Shadows and The Rev. Before Avenged
Sevenfold, he was in a punk band called MPA*, which stands for
Mad Porno Action. Despite playing the guitar left handed,
Vengeance recalls the first guitar he learned to play on was
actually a right-handed his parents had bought him for his
thirteenth birthday. He learned by playing upside-down, watching
his favorite bands and other people he knew who played, and
practiced as much as he could.
6. James Owen Sullivan (February 9, 1981 – December 28, 2009) more commonly known by
his stage name The Reverend Tholomew Plague , often shortened to The Rev, was an
American musician, best known as the drummer for the American heavy
metal band Avenged Sevenfold. He was also the lead vocalist/pianist in Pinkly Smooth, a
side project where he was known by the name Rat Head, with fellow Avenged Sevenfold
member, guitarist Synyster Gates. Sullivan grew up and lived in Huntington Beach
California. He got his first pair of drum sticks at the age of four and received his own drum
set at the age of ten. In high school, he started playing in bands. Before leaving to join
Avenged Sevenfold as one of the band's founding members, Sullivan was the drummer for
the third wave ska band Suburban Legends. At the age of eighteen he recorded his first
album with Avenged Sevenfold titled Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. Sullivan's body was
found in his home on December 28, 2009 at the age of 28. His death was reported as due
to natural causes. The results of the autopsy performed on December 30, 2009, however,
were inconclusive. On June 9, 2010, the cause of death was revealed to have been an
acute polydrug intoxication due to combined effects of oxycodone
(Percocet),oxymorphone (a metabolite of
oxycodone), diazepam (Valium), nordiazepam (a metabolite of diazepam) and alcohol.
His death was the result of an accidental overdose due to
intoxication. Cardiomegaly (enlarged heart) was reported as a "significant condition" that
played a role in Sullivan's death because of the medication he was prescribed to take
care of it.
On January 6, 2010, a private funeral was held for Sullivan, and a day later he was buried in
Huntington Beach, California.Shortly after his death, Good Charlotte dedicated their
single, "The River", to him.

7. Jonathan Lewis Seward, (born November 18, 1984), better known by
his stage name Johnny Christ, is the bassist of the American heavy
metal band Avenged Sevenfold. Johnny was the fourth bassist to
join Avenged Sevenfold in 2002, replacing former members Matt
Wendt, Justin Sane, and Dameon Ash. Johnny Seward
attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. He
proceeded through high school and formally met M. Shadows, Zacky
Vengeance, Synyster Gates, and The Rev. Despite not being in the
band at the time, Johnny was already friends with The
Rev and Synyster Gates, then soon after M. Shadows and Zacky
Vengeance. Seward initially took a few weeks off from high school
during his senior year to fill in for Avenged Sevenfold's previous
bassist, Dameon Ash, during one of their tours because he went on
tour with Avenged Sevenfold as a roadie. These few weeks would
become permanent as he dropped out of high school to become
the band's current bassist.
8. Avenged Sevenfold (often abbreviated A7X) is an American heavy
metal band from Huntington Beach, California. Formed in 1999, the
group consists of M. Shadows (vocalist), Synyster Gates (lead
guitarist), Zacky Vengeance (rhythm guitarist), and Johnny
Christ(bassist).
They are known for their diverse rock sound, dramatic imagery in album
covers and t-shirts. Avenged Sevenfold emerged with a metal
core sound on their debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpet but their style
had evolved by their third album and first major label release, City of
Evil into a hard rock/heavy metal sound. The band continued to explore
new sounds with their self-titled release and enjoyed continued
mainstream success before their drummer, James "The Rev" Sullivan, died
in 2009. Despite his death, the band continued on with help of now-
former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and released and toured
in support of their fifth album Nightmare in 2010 which debuted on the
top spot of the Billboard 200, their first number one debut.
To date, Avenged Sevenfold has released five studio albums, one live
album/compilation/DVD, and eighteen singles and sold more than four
million albums worldwide. The band has received much credit for their
worldwide mainstream success and were featured as second place
on Ultimate Guitar's Top Ten Bands of the Decade.
