9. Facts & FIGURES KHADI GAATHA
The handloom sector in India is a
significant employer across the country.
As per Census 2009-10, it employed 43.3
lakh weavers and ancillary workers.
According to the Labour Ministry of India’s
quarterly surveys India’s textile industry
created the highest number of jobs, even
more than IT in the first quarter of this
fiscal year.
Handlooms that account for nearly 11 per
cent of fabric production in India
contributed Rs. 2812 crore to exports in
2012-13.

10. Facts & FIGURES KHADI GAATHA
The number of people it employed dipped by 21 lakh since
1995-96.
Only 25 per cent of weaver households report that their
children are interested in taking up handloom as a profession.
Despite being such a large employer in rural India with a
workforce comprised of 77 per cent women, the sector has
largely remained poor and lacking in basic facilities for a vast
majority among the weaver population.

IN SYNC – basant anuj is one of India’s most successful and respected design resources for
KHADI textile and fashion. This design label was initially established by designer Basant Rai
who was later joined by Dr. Anuj Sing
Each IN SYNC – basant anuj collection continues the exploration of developing a quiet and
modern design voice while simultaneously drawing on the rich traditional vocabulary of Indian
design & craft. The design sensibility is low key yet highly distinctive, with strong respect for
material, form and craft.
An important aspect of the different collections presented each season is the very modern
synergy between fashion, lifestyle and environment with a unifying vision for the way the
contemporary urban consumer dresses and lives.

19. About us KHADI GAATHA
BASANT RAI:
Creative director of IN SYNC – basant anuj, the Indian born designer is constantly searching
for the simplest way to express the complex design ideas. He is focused on conceptualizing and
reinventing the KHADI story each season to keep it contemporary, directional and relevant both
in India and Internationally.
DR ANUJ SINGH:
A qualified dentist and an entrepreneur, he is the director of Sales for both the international and
domestic markets. Besides the challenge of developing and creating new markets for the brand,
he is also responsible for conceptualizing the designs of a A & T visual displays that is the key
feature of the retail identity of the brand.
