The document discusses how the author's irrational beliefs and dysfunctional attitudes developed from childhood experiences and shaped their personality and thinking as an adult. These irrational beliefs, such as basing their self-worth on others' approval, have led to emotional distress and unhappiness. The author agrees with Ellis's ABC model that evaluating one's beliefs is important for rational thinking and emotional well-being. They want to apply techniques from this model to change their thinking for the better.

Adulthood and Autonomy
I agree with Albert Ellis ABC concept. As review the concepts I can relate to each
of them. My lifestyle and how I think is perhaps the philosophy of the concept. I am
disturbed as a result of experiences that I had no control of as a child. This has leaded me
to emotional distress as an adult. My attitude, expectations and personal rules, has caused
dysfunctional beliefs to sabotage my life. Everyone has emotions, but everyone is not
able to put them aside and deal with the present. It is hard to block emotions would that
cause irrational beliefs.
Most of my irrational thinking accredits to my amiable personality. I have always
wanted everyone to like me. That activating event would be focus on how I care about
everyone elseâs welfare but my own. These beliefs or perceptions of life have caused me
to become unhappy. While everyone else around me is content. I have based my life on
the love and approval of my friends and family. I am likely to infer total dislike and
disapproval from significant others.
I also agree that you have to evaluate your beliefs in order to have rational
judgments. If you are unaware that our thoughts cause emotional consequences, we
become constantly distress with present life. After reviewing the ABC concept I realize I
am a product of the Philosophy. I can apply some of the techniques to change the way I
think. I would like to change this way for the good
