The IoT Market
www.nerospec.com 3
The Internet of Things, or IoT, refers to billions of physical devices around the world that are now connected to the
internet, collecting and sharing data. Thanks to inexpensive processors and wireless networks, it's possible to turn
anything, from a pill to an aero plane, into a part of IoT. This adds a level of digital intelligence to devices that
would otherwise be dumb, enabling them to communicate without human intervention and merging the digital
and physical worlds.
What is the Internet of Things?
Forbes indicated that around 8.4 billion IoT devices were in use in 2017, up 31 percent from 2016, and this will
likely reach 20.4 billion by 2020. Total spending on IoT endpoints and services will reach almost $2tn in 2017, with
two-thirds of those devices found in China, North America and Western Europe.
Where is IoT Heading?
It’s easy to mount a sensor that can be accessed from a smartphone, but designing a reliable sensor that can be
remotely controlled and upgraded is an entirely different matter. Questions that you need to ask should be related
to the safety and integrity of the products, licensing issues on a local and global spectrum, how to dispose of the
products in a responsible manner, how to ensure the products can withstand the local environmental conditions, or
whether the products provide the security you desire? Those are just some of the questions involved in creating an
IoT system. Choosing a partner that can answer all these questions is a good start.
What is next, and why choose Nerospec?

The node is the device that
the sensor connects to and
transmit the collected
information to the closet
gateway. This device is
designed to work without
human interference for a
period of at least 10 Years.
The neroGATE is a data
concentrator that receives
information from multiple nodes,
encrypts the data and forwards the
information to the application
server. These gateways are spaced
across the country to provide a
reliable network for 24/7.
The application server is normally
hosted in a secure location where
data retention and reliability is the
key concern. The Carbon Engine is
installed on this server and allows
client applications to retrieve the
collected data when required.
The client application can be
installed or accessed from
either a mobile application,
Web or a computer. The
carbon viewer is used to
customised and display the
client data in a useful and
ergonomic method.

LPWAN - Comparison
5
What is LoRaWAN?
Thanks to CSS and ADR, devices can communicate with
gateways at up to a 15km range in open areas. The
LoRaWAN specification is a Low Power, Wide Area (LPWA)
networking (N) protocol designed to wirelessly connect
battery operated ‘things’ to the internet.
What is Sigfox?
Sigfox is a French company founded in 2009 that builds
wireless networks to connect low-energy objects such as
electricity meters, smartwatches, and washing machines,
which need to be continuously powered and emitting small
amounts of data.
What is NB-IoT?
Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) is a Low Power Wide Area
Network (LPWAN) radio technology standard developed by
3GPP to enable a wide range of cellular devices and
services.
What is LTE CAT-M1?
By capping the maximum system bandwidth to 1.4 MHz (as
opposed to 20 MHz for Cat-0), Cat-M is really targeting
LPWAN applications like smart metering where only small
amount of data transfer is required.
What is RPMA?
RPMA (Random Phase Multiple Access) is wireless
technology that was developed by Ingenu, the creators of
the Machine Network™, the only wireless network designed
exclusively for machine to machine (M2M) and Internet of
Things (IoT) applications.

Our Product Range
Our range of neronodes are just the thing to use if you are operating in harsh environments, have little to no infrastructure and require
deployment in remote areas. With extended temperature ranges, battery life of 10 years and energy harvesting to name a few, the
neronode range truly sets it self apart form commercial IoT devices. Our equipment designed for Industrial and Enterprise IIoT systems is
differentiated from our standard IoT equipment by a number of characteristics, including allocated build cost budget, reliability,
robustness, lifecycle expectancy as well as compatibility to requisite industrial standards.
Our Industrial IoT devices are crafted with careful consideration of these defining characteristics, ensuring that organizations investing
capital into this technology obtain precisely the results they are expecting from the completed solutions.

The Industrial Internet of Things, also known as Industry 4.0,
drives machines, actuators, sensors and personnel towards a
more symbiotic workflow.
IIoT is formed by a network of a large numbers of nodes,
automation engines and visualization devices, connected by
the appropriate communication technologies. The result is a
system which can monitor, collect, exchange, analyze and
deliver valuable insights into business driving processes.
This allows industrial and enterprise companies to make
smarter and faster business decisions on the fly, thereby
optimizing efficiency, productivity and safety in the workplace.

neroNODE.Industrial
The neroNODE.Industrial typically forms the end points of a geographically
distributed IIoT network. It is deployed as the acquisition and radio reporting
device at the point of measurement or point of control. Measurements and
control types supported by the neroNODE as standard are as follows:
• Process Control Current Loops (4-20mA)
• Voltage Sources (Active Sensors)
• Voltage Setpoints (Voltage Outputs)
• Pulse Rate and Totalizing Sources (Metering systems)
• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s via Serial Communication)
• Resistivity Measurement (Passive Sensors)
• Relay Logic Outputs (Potential Free Contacts)

We specialise in the rapid development of reliable software through
refined processes and decades of experience. A complete software solution
is developed in-house, allowing for customisation at any time, to precisely
suit your required need. We do all development from firmware, to the
front-end presentation of information via either a computer or mobile
dashboard.
Data is valuable and the correct interpretation of it even more so. We
handle the transport of data from conception in the device to storage
within an online database. To cater for specialised systems, we have taken
an agnostic point of view and are compatible with all LPWAN providers.
Your data will go through proven analytical algorithms to produce
meaningful information. This is a multi-platform which interfaces with the
system for both configuration and viewing on mobile, web server and
Windows or Linux OS applications.
