Nestle has identified 7 global trends currently shaping people’s lives and significantly influencing consumer attitudes and behavior around the world. Not all have the same importance, appears at the same time or develop the same way. Especially 5 of them, to our opinion, are very relevant in Russia. Evolving Roles: They are new expectations for how people should live their lives. - Kids Grow Up Faster: kids are becoming more sophisticated and more mature - New Look of Households: blended, patchwork families, single person HH, flat sharing - Redefinition of Ageing: what does it means to be old, refusing to act their age Risk Society: There is less guidance and fewer parameter - Safe Retreat: People are seeking for a safe retreat, physical and emotional - Trusted Advisors: People search for new advisors they can trust, family, friends or communities - Beyond transparency + Social responsibility: Consumer want to know who is behind the brand, the products they buy Fluid Lives People lives are less ordered and less predictable.
And than the crisis came, But the crisis didn’t change the trends, it just reinforced some of them and slowed down the rest.
Not all the trends have the same importance everywhere. Here, to our opinion, the 5 most relevant ones for Russia. “ Pleasure Principles” and “Seeking Balance” became less important with the crisis “ Wising up” and “Fluid Lives” became more important and “ Evolving Roles” was modified, changed into a “Growth of Family Values” trend. Let’s go through each of them in more details.
Crisis affected most the middle class Consumers of everyday premium products have to reduce expenditures (switch to cheaper brands, decrease volumes) Low income consumers had to stop buying some not necessary categories like chocolate, at all Crisis has prompted shoppers to go more to discounters and hypermarkets in search for better offer
