What kind of book do I want? I want a FICTION chapter book…… Fiction chapter book? Informational book?
What do I want the book to be about? ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],I want a MYSTERY book……
What is a good reading level?
- Example Reading Ranges - 3.5 4.5 5.5 4.1 5.0 6.0 6.1 7.7 4.5
- Reading Ranges - Bottom of Range Middle of Range Top of Range It’s okay to read below your ZPD sometimes Independent Reading This where it is comfortable and fun for you to read. Instructional Reading This is where your teacher will have you reading during your reading group. Challenging Reading You will need extra help at this level. It takes extra concentration to read here.
- Example Reading Ranges - 3.5 4.5 5.5 4.1 5.0 6.0 6.1 7.7 4.5
This is what I know so far… 1. I want a fiction chapter book.. 2. I want it to be a mystery… 3. I want it to be AR… so it needs to be about a 3.5… There is still one more question I need to answer…
Do I get a THICK book or a THIN book?
- Points for Books - Points (The fewer points) Number of Words (The fewer words/pages) Points = 7 Pages = 233 Points = 16 Pages = 523 Points = 0.5 Pages = 30 Points = 0.5 Pages = 64 Points = 10 Pages = 314 Points = 32 Pages = 734 Points = 5 Pages = 201 Points = 3 Pages = 182
- Fewer Points – thin books - More Points – thicker books ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Can you read the book in two weeks or less? If not, get a book with less points.
Okay, NOW I have all the information… 1. I want a fiction chapter book.. 2. I want it to be a mystery… 3. I want it to be AR… so it needs to be about a 3.5… ,[object Object]
PERFECT! Thanks Mrs. Wollenberg!
