2. INTRODUCTION AND
PROBLEM
Considering the city of Kolkata where 5300 tonnes of waste is
generated daily based on following categories:
1. Household- 1900
2. Commercial- 2000
3. Institutional- 400
4. Streets and others- 1000
1900 tonnes are recyclable.
Considering the rest 3400 tonnes of waste generated per day
which are neither disposed properly nor treated for any beneficial
purposes , provides an opportunity for our start-up to use this
garbage as a fortune.
3. MISSION
‘Garbage Fortune’ aims at using the daily garbage generated by
various residential and commercial premises to convert them
into various substantial products which can be used as a
substitute in various forms of energy and also contribute in
the development of an eco-friendly environment.
The project also aims to contribute significantly in the
‘Clean India Movement’ by employing better methods of
management of wastes in the Kolkata city.
4. PYROLYSIS
Pyrolysis is process of thermochemical decomposition of
organic as well as inorganic material at elevated temp. in the
absence of oxygen.
Pyrolysis plant is an industry designed to carry out pyrolysis
of waste plastic , tires and biomass. In case of plastic & tires
pyrolysis, long chain polymer is broken down into smaller
chains of hydrocarbon gas and pyrolysis oil.
7. PRODUCTS
Fuel oil (40 to 45%):
• The main oil product produced by recycling application is
the fuel oil, which is wide used for industrial and
commercial purposes.
Carbon black (30 to 35%):
• Carbon black is the main product recycled by the
pyrolysis technology.Carbon black is used as raw material
or main ingredient in the following processes :
8. • Electric cable jacketing
• Conveyor bands
• Carrier bands
• Home and doormats
• Black nylon bags
• Rubber additives
• Automotive spare parts
• Heat isolation
• Black colorant in rubber materials
• Plastic pipes
• Industrial rubber products
Steel wire (9 to 15%):
• Tires contain steel wires, the amount ranging from 9% to 15% of the
total tire weight. All of the steel present in the tire can be detached
after the pyrolysis recycling process is completed.
9. Gas (9 to 12%):
Has a higher calorific value compared to natural gas;
• Can replace natural gas and propane when stored;
• Can be used as energy resource in gas burners, also used in
pyrolysis system.
10. SERVICES
• Free trial
• Quality check
• Information Brochure
• Customer Support
• Direct Supply to desired location
11. MARKET ANALYSIS
The companies that fall under the segment potential of this business are mainly
1. For pyrolysis oil :
• Electric generators
• Fuel oil compatible diesel power plants
• Diesel Pumps (mixed with 50% diesel)
• Vacuum Distillation
• Oil Refineries
2. For carbon black:
• Rubber Industry
• Plastic Industry
• Paint Industry
• Ink Industry
12. COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Since the function of the product is to act as a fuel, the
main competition of our product will be fossil fuels
like coal, petroleum, diesel and natural gas. Since the
competitors are neither renewable sources of energy
nor eco- friendly, our product is more advantageous
and profitable.
13. CONSTRUCTION AND MACHINERY SET UP
PLAN
REQUIREMENTS:
• Procurement of around 5 acres of land.
• Project should satisfy all its Architectural &
constructional requirements.
• Project should be completed within a period of 18 months.
• Project should comply by its budget of 80 lakhs- 1 crore.
• Finished plant should be able to recycle 10 tons of waste
every working day.
20. IMPORTANT NOTES
• The project will take about 522 working days to complete
the project.
• The construction phase alone takes about 231 days.
• There will be a PROJECT MANAGER who will lead the
complete project and every department will have a
DEPARTMENTAL MANAGER to co-ordinate between
the team and the project manager needs.
25. • Raw materials (per month) :
TOTAL EXPENSES: Rs. 22,04,000
S.N. Description Wt. per day(kg) Days Rate(per kg) Amount (Rs.)
1. Waste 10000 25 7 1750000
2. Coal or wood 600 25 6 90000
3. Power(in KW) 35 25 6 126000
4. Water 5000
TOTAL 19,71,000
26. • Product turnover (per month) :
• Total profit per month = Rs. 1052000
• Profit per annum (10 months) = Rs. 10520000
• Then the profit generated by ‘Garbage Fortune’ would be
nearly 1 crore per year.(Excluding Marketing Costs).
S.N. Description Wt. Waste
per day(kg)
% output Rate per
kg(Rs)
Days Amount
(Rs.)
1. Fuel oil 10000 32% 37 25 2960000
2. Carbon black 10000 28% 0.8 25 56000
3. Steel Wire 10000 12% 8 25 240000
TOTAL 3256000
27. MARKETING
• The only process that can be adapted for Marketing would be PERSONAL SELLING.
• Hire two marketing executives who could handle the process of personal selling to
the various set of companies as mentioned in market analysis.
• The total annual cost of marketing involves the following expenditures:
Serial
no.
Description Amount (Rs.) per annum Qty. Amount(Rs.)
1. Executives 420000 2 840000
2. Travelling costs 200000 2 400000
3. Misc. 100000
TOTAL 1340000
28. Now, the total annual profit accounts to:
Rs.(10520000-1340000) = Rs.91,80,000
Considering the profit per month and the total
expenditure, we can say that breakeven point occurs
within one year other of the functioning of the plant.
After a year, ‘Garbage Fortune’generates a profit of nearly
Rs.92 lakhs per annum.
29. FUTURE GOALS
‘Garbage fortune’aims at the following goals in the future:
• To expand the plant in order to operate 100 tonnes of waste in next 5
years.
• Further expansion in order to operate 1000 tonnes of waste in next 10
years.
• Further expansion in order to operate the total unused waste in
Kolkata i.e.3400 tonnes of waste in next 15 years.
Since the resources of non renewable energies are likely to be
extinguished in the next 10 – 15 years, ‘Garbage Fortune’ aims to entirely
replace the non- renewable sources of energy with Pyrolysis oil in the
future.
