Name of the unit: About flowering plants Duration:
Name of the lesson: Parts of a plant Date:
CURRICULAR STATEMENT
Develop factual, conceptual, procedural, metacognitive knowledge, process skills, and attitude
towards parts of a plant through lecture method, group discussion, participating in group work, and
evaluation by questioning.
CONTENT ANALYSIS
NEW TERMS: Shoot, root, stem, leaves, flowers and fruits
2. 2
FACTS:
A plant has two parts.
The part above the ground consisting of the stem, leaves, flower and fruits is called the shoot.
The part below the ground is called the roots
Stem consists of nodes, internodes, axil etc.
The leaves have a flat, green leaf blade or lamina. They also have a stalk, petiole, the point of
attachment called leaf base.
Flower is the reproductive organ of plants. The shapes, sizes, colors of flowers vary greatly,
but they all have some features in common.
CONCEPTS
MINOR CONCEPTS:
A Plant has two parts.
The part above the ground consisting of the stem, leaves, flowers and fruits is called the shoot.
The part below the ground is called the root.
MAJOR CONCEPTS
Plants are the producers in the ecosystem.
3. 3
LEARNING OUTCOMES IN TERMS OF SPECIFICATIONS
Enables pupil to develop;
1. Factual knowledge on the parts of a plant through:
a) Recalling the new terms like shoot, root, stem, leaves, flowers, fruits.
b) Recognizing the parts of a plant
c) Explaining the parts of a plant
2. Conceptual knowledge on the parts of a plant through:
a) Recalling the parts of a plant
b) Recognizing the parts of a plant
c) Explaining the parts of a plant
3. Procedural knowledge on parts of a plant through:
a) Explaining the parts of a plant.
4. Metacognitive knowledge on parts of a plant through:
a) Recognizing the parts of a plant.
b) Describing the parts of a plant.
5. Different process skills like:
a) Observing the parts of a plant.
b) Describing the parts of a plant.
c) Communicating through presenting the group work.
6. Scientific attitude towards the study of parts of a flower.
PRE REQUISITES
4. 4
Pupil knows that, green plants are producers in our ecosystem.
TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES
A problem to solve.
An activity for identifying the words.
REFERENCE
Text book of standard 8.
CLASS ROOM INERACTION PROCEDURE PUPIL RESPONSES
INTRODUCTION
Teacher makes a rapport with the students and ask questions
related to the contextual situation
Teacher asks:
1. Which are the producers in our ecosystem?
2. Which are the main parts in the plants?
Today we will learn about it.
ACTIVITY-1
Teacher shows the diagram of a plant and explains that stem,
Plants
Leaves, roots, flower
5. 5
leaves, flowers, fruits and root are the important parts of a
plant.
STEM: Stem supports the plants. They act like the plants
plumbing system, conducting water and nutrients from the
root.
LEAVES: Leaves are used to capture sunlight which the plant
uses to make food through a process called photosynthesis.
FLOWERS: Flowers are the reproductive parts of a plant.
FRUITS: Fruits provide a covering for seeds.
ROOTS: Root absorbs water and minerals from the soil.
ACTIVITY-2
Teacher distributes the activity cards and asks to write
answers.
1. I am the reproductive part of plant. Who am i?
2. I absorbs water and minerals from the soil. Who am i?
3. I capture light. I done the photosynthesis for plants. Who
am i?
4. I provide a covering for seeds. Who am i?
5. I am the plumbing system, conducting water and
nutrients from the roots. who am I?
ACTIVITY-3
Pupil observes
Pupil write answers.
Flower
Root
Leaves
Fruit
Stem
6. 6
Teacher gave activity cards and asks to identify the word
from the given set of letters.
1. I absorbs water and minerals from the soil.
2. I am the reproductive parts of plants.
3. I provide a covering for seeds.
4. I capture sunlight and helps in making food through
photosynthesis.
5. I support the plants and act as a plumbing system.

REVIEW QUESTIONS
What is a fruit?
What is a root?
What are leaves?
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
Draw a labeled diagram of plant and mention the importance of different part of a plant?
CONSOLIDATION
Stem, flower, root, fruit are the important
parts of a flower.
