3. Main Issues
ï The main issues in the career field of being a
lawyer/attorney are:
ï Competition
ï Ethnic issues
ï Client relationships
4. Competition
With all of the new students finishing colleges to
become lawyers, there has been an increase in job
competition in the lawyer career field. When new students
finish college they are looking for full-time jobs
5. Ethnic Issues
ï Some issues of lawyersâ ethnics require us to go
deeper into our purposes and values than others. In the
past thirty years, there has been a growing debate over
whether one can be both a good lawyer and a good
person.
ï Lawyers need to be able to support their clients by
being a good lawyer and being a good person.
6. Client Relationships
ï Professor Thomas Shaffer identifies two aspects of the
lawyer-client relationship that affects the view of
lawyersâ ethnical obligations.
ï One is the inequality inherent in the relationship: the
lawyer frequently has considerable power over the
client.
ï The second is a concern with the clientâs goodness
and the extent of the lawyerâs responsibility through
association with the client as a lower moral being.
