How to make a tassel
1. The first stage of making your tassel is to wind wool around a
book.
The width of the book will set the size of your tassel
A paperback make a tassel the ideal size for a cushion.

2.
3. Step 2
Carefully slide your big loops off the paperback
It’s important to keep the loops together, don’t let them
cross over
Make a chain. This will be seen on the finished tassel so
make sure you use the wool you want in your finished tassel.
You can use the same colour as your tassel or a contrasting
colour
Tie your chain tightly around one end of the loops. This will
be the top of your tassel
4.
5. Step 3
Now you need to make the top of your tassel
Take a length of wool. This will covered over in your
finished tassel.
Tie it around the tassel, down from the top by around 1 to
2 inches (2.4 to 5 cms)
Now cut through the bottom loops of your tassel. Use a
pair of sharp scissors to get a straight edge.

7.
8. Step 4
Now you need to trim your tassel
Place the top of your tassel into a book with the
bottom peeping through.
Doing this will enable you to tidy up the bottom of
your tassel. Use sharp scissors to get a clean edge
9.
10.
11. Step 5
Now you are going to cover the head of the tassel. Doing this
creates a lovely finish and a more professional looking tassel
Thread a large needle with some wool. I’ve used a contrast so
you can see the effect, but I often do this to pick out colours
from your cushion and it looks very nice.
It is very important that you don’t cross over the strands of
the head of the tassel.
Fasten your thread around the tassel on top of the tie you
made in step 3. You are going to go down through the head
of the tassel and up and around of the side of the tassel.
Keep your threads tight together so none of the strands of
the original head of the tassel show through
