Learning Competency:S11-12ES-Ii-40
• Give practical ways of coping with coastal
erosion, submersion, and saltwater
intrusion.

4. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Coastal Erosion
• Hard stabilization builds structures that will
slow down the erosion on areas where it is
located. Examples of these structures are
jetties, sea walls, and breakwater.
4
5. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Coastal Erosion
• Soft stabilization includes the process of
beach nourishment wherein sand from an
offshore location is brought to an area with
receding shore.
5
6. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Coastal Erosion
• Retreat is the option taken by residents
near the areas where coastal erosion is
already severe.
6
7. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Submersion
• Sea walls are built along the coastline to
protect the land from being easily flooded
• Dikes can also help prevent flooding.
• Regenerate mangroves or relocate the
people.
7
8. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Saltwater Intrusion
• Stop using the well where freshwater has
been depleted and let the natural ways to
replenish the groundwater through the
water cycle.
.

9. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Saltwater intrusion
• The other method is to build two wells: a
pumping well built further in the land and
an injection well built closer to the coast.
