GUIDELINES FOR LOCAL KNOWLEDGE PROPOSALS
2011 –2012
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Proposal Considerations
The Asian University Digital Resource Network (AUDRN) invites proposals for Local
Knowledge projects to be implemented between December 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012. Local
Knowledge projects include academic research projects, interactive workshops, and development
and pilot-testing of learning plans with first hand data collection.
Proposals should be submitted by November 20, 2011 and should be emailed to
lbeltran@mc.edu.ph. An acknowledgment email shall be sent to the proponents of all proposals
received. Decisions regarding proposal funding will be announced by December 1, 2011. Reports
of funded projects should be submitted by June 30, 2012.
Local Knowledge
Projects may be in any academic discipline (arts and the humanities, social sciences, natural
sciences) or interdisciplinary. Proposals should explain the significance of the local knowledge
that will be collected and should utilize digital tools in the documentation. The project proponent
will be required to upload the process and result of the project to the AUDRN Mahara e-portfolio
platform. An account for all approved proposals in the AUDRN e-portfolio will be provided
unless the proponent already has an existing account. Proposed budgets per institution may range
from US$1,000 - $2,500. Collaborative proposals involving two or more institutions are
encouraged, and in these cases, proposed budgets may be increased proportionately.
Proposals should meet at least one of these criteria:
1. Create and share replicable models of uses of local knowledge for teaching and learning in
higher education including service-learning and other similar service activities.
2. Expand the capacity of an institution’s faculty, researchers and/or library staff in the use of
digital tools for teaching, learning, student research and/or service through the collection,
organization, analysis, and sharing of local knowledge data.
3. Emphasize collaboration in the collection and/or use of local knowledge data (e.g., among
classes, across departments, among the institution and community, or among higher
education institutions in one country or internationally) including the involvement of
undergraduate students as active participants in the research process.
