To understand what leadership looks like.
It is important for members of your team to identify what
leadership “looks like”. While leadership is hard to define,
identifying characteristics or traits of individuals that
attract others to us, or push people away can clarify
attractive leadership.
Reflect on and answer the following questions as a small
group, position group, with a partner/ teammate, as a
coaching staff or by yourself.
After you have completed the questions discuss your
answers in a group or with a teammate/ staff member.

want to be like and list characteristics
that attract you to them.

and list characteristics that detract from
their leadership.

Specific to YOUR leadership or ability to
influence others, what three traits or
characteristics attract and detract from your
potential to draw people to you and your mission.

Ask your fellow teammates or captains what it is
about you that makes them want to follow, or what it
is about you that pushes people away. Make a
commitment to build on your attractors, and reduce
your detractor behavior.
