Here are some potential responses to the questions:
Why did I ask the question? - I asked about preferences for British vs American artists to learn about the genre and artists my target audience prefers.
What was the result? - The majority (70%) preferred British artists, more than I expected.
What went wrong? - I was surprised by this result as I had envisioned focusing more on American artists in my magazine concept.
What does this mean in terms of your target audience/representation? - It means I need to refocus my magazine's artist representation to primarily feature British artists in order to best represent what my target audience wants to see.
What does this mean in terms of your genre? - As
2. I have done some audience research, which enables me
to see what my target audience wants to see.The
research I have done is primary because it’s a
questionnaire that I wrote and handed out to 10 college
students myself, I did not gather any information from
the internet. To do this I had to think of specific types of
questions to ask them. In my questionnaire, I included
closed questions to help the students in answering the
questions and narrowing the answers down. I used
mainly quantitative data to help in collecting in the data
and seeing the results. From my results I can go and
record a target audience profile and also start to draft out
what my magazine will look like and what will be
included within in.
3. In my questionnaire, I asked my target audience
what gender they were and the results I gained
were that 50% were female and 50% male. I
believe I did have a good range in gaining
opinions from both genders. However, this
doesn’t help me choose which gender my
magazine is aimed as both male and female
were the same percentage. I decided to ask this
question to gain input on what each gender is
into and whether or not they are similar which I
found that in some cases they are and in others
they are not. I am surprised by this result
because in my secondary research I found that
rock music is mainly aimed towards the male
gender as the colour of the magazines are
usually darker black, and blues with a few bright
colours thrown in now and then which men
would find more appealing that women
because women find more sophisticated
colours more appealing.

4. In this question I had a mix of idea’s from my
target audience. Some of the students who filled
the questionnaire out chose more than one of
these four choices. This was a good response as
there is more than just a few pages in a magazine
so I now have a range of preferred topics to place
in my magazine and in the contents page. The
three that each got the same percentage were
free posters, concert/festival information and a
sneak peek into the life of a celebrity. This was a
key question as I was hoping to have a clear
winner to place as an attraction to the magazine
but as a whole I am not surprised by the results as
the ones I thought would be popular are. This
means that within my magazine I will have to
ensure that I include each one of these three. This
means that my genre of my magazine will mainly
have to be aimed towards rock pop and rock punk
as those artists are normally seen to have more
fans and gossip surrounding them for the sneak
peek into the life of a celebrity.

5. In this question I had the majority of the
students asked chose pop rock music. I
am not surprised by these results as pop
music is very popular so pop rock music
would fit into that category. I asked this
question to see what sub-genre of rock
music my target audience would prefer
as I wouldn’t want to get the sub-genre’s
confused as there are quite a few of
them. This means within my magazine I
will need to include some pop rock
music and artists to satisfy the target
audience, which will include bands such
as 5 seconds of summer, green day and
imagine dragons.When writing this
question I was hoping to get a clear
favourite as the results I have so far are
too close. Here I have a definite winner,
with pop rock having just over half the
votes and the other four only getting 9%
or 18%.

6. In this question I asked whether
people whether they would
prefer to see more rock groups
or not which the majority of the
students said they would prefer
not to see rock groups.This
wasn’t the result I wanted as I
would prefer to use rock groups
as there are more rock bands
out there than single artist.This
means that I will have to
conduct a focus to check my
results and see if this is correct
to what I would like to include
and what they would like to
include.

7. In this question once again I had a clear
winner with 50% exactly voting for red, black
and white. When asking this question I was
hoping to get a clear winner which I managed
to get with exactly half of the students asked
voted fort he same one.Two of the colour
schemes I put down didn’t have anyone vote
for it which doesn’t surprise me as there were
6 choices to choose from and only 10 students
were asked. Overall I am not surprised by the
results as there are a few rock magazines that
contain red today so the target audience
would see that as normal or most fitting for
that genre of music magazines. This means
that I must include all three of these colours
as that is what the target audience would like
to see and if I don’t then they might not find
my magazine appealing and not want to buy
it.

8. I asked the target audience whether they
had a part time job, as they are students I
know they would have full time jobs. The
reason for asking this is so that I can decide
what to price my magazine at. As both
answers got the same amount of votes
means that I will have to price my magazine
very carefully, not making it too cheap and
not making it too expensive. I am not
surprised by the results but I know that some
students have jobs to earn extra money and
other students don’t have a job because they
would prefer to work on their studies first.
This means due to the fact half the students
don’t have jobs, that they are going to want
to pay as little as they can as they will be
borrowing money from their parents which
means I cant charge too much for this
magazine.

9. In this question I asked the target audience
whether they preferred American artists or
British artists. Once again I got a majority
vote for British artist having 70%,
American only 20% and other having 10%.
This means that I will not be able to have
as many American or artist from another
country within my magazine, but that
doesn’t meant that I can’t use them as 30%
didn’t want to see British artists used
within this magazine. I am surprised by this
result as I thought the majority would got
for brands from abroad as they are the
bands I had in mind to use but now I will
have to change my ideas round to suit the
wants and needs of the target audience.
