•Present Continuous/Progressive Tense
•Present Perfect Continuous Tense
•Present Perfect Tense
We Will Learn
•Present Simple Tense
•Present Continuous/Progressive Tense
Present Simple Tense
Usage:
to talk about
•routines
•things that are always true
•general facts
•habits
Present Simple Tense Sentence Structure/syntax
Positive
I/You/We/They + verb
He/ She/It/3rd person + Verb(-s/-es/-ies)
Negative:
I/You/We/They + don’t + Verb
He/ She/ It/ 3rd person name + doesn’t + Verb
Present Simple Tense Examples
Positive sentences: Negative:
I live in India We don't like audio noise
I offer Digital Marketing Services He doesn’t make lunch
Maria works for a TV station I don’t wake up early
He plays football every Tuesday. Sun doesn’t rise in west
Present Simple Tense Notes:
•In a simple present sentence where he, she, it or a name is the subject, verbs can
end in -s or -es depending on the way the verb ends.
•For most words, just add -s to the end of the verb.
Example:
Play – Plays Eat – Eats Drink - Drinks
Present Simple Tense Notes:
Verb ends with -o, -sh, -ch, -tch, -x, -z, -ss; you need to add -es
For ex:
Go –Goes Do – Does Wash - Washes
Watch – watches Buzz – buzzes fix - fixes
splash - splashes
Present Simple Tense Notes:
Verb ends with consonant + y, change the -y to -ie and add s
Example:
Dry – dries Fly – flies Worry - worries
Present Simple Tense: Exception
Don’t add s, -es, -ies, when there is a modal verb in the sentence
Example:
He can Play
She may watch
Maria Must fly New York Tomorrow
Present Continuous/Progressive Tense
Usage:
to talk about actions which are happening at the present moment, but will soon
finish.
Present Continuous/Progressive Tense Structure
Positive
Subject + to be verb + main verb(ing)
Negative:
Subject + to be verb + not + main verb(ing)
Present Continuous/Progressive Tense
Examples
Positive sentences: Negative:
I am coming from Mexico We are not going to that event
I am teaching Business English He is not playing that game
Maria is helping him for a project I am not making tea for the guest
He is looking for a rented apartment It is not raining here
Present Continuous/Progressive Tense Notes:
We drop ‘e’ in the verbs which has silent –e at the end when we’re converting it
into the –ing verb form.
Example:
Come – Coming Make – Making
But
Agree – Agreeing (because here ‘-e’ is not silent)
After a short, stressed vowel, the final consonant is doubled. You can also say, the
verb with ‘one vowel + one consonant’ at the end, double the last letter.
Example:
Sit – sitting Put - Putting
Stop – Stopping Run - Running
Present Continuous/Progressive Tense Notes:
The verb ends with –ie; Drop -ie and change e to –y
Example:
Lie – lying Tie – Tying
Die - Dying
