I Ashita Laddha, student of Dezyne E’cole College, am extremely grateful to each and
every individual who has contributed in successful completion of my project.
I express my gratitude towards Dezyne E’cole College for their guidance and constant
supervision as well as for providing the necessary information and support regarding
the completion of project.
I than to Almighty for providing me with everything that I required for completing
this project.
I would like to thank all the faculty members of Dezyne E’cole for their critical advice
and guidance without which this project would not have been possible.
I would like to express my special gratitude towards my parents and friends who have
been constant source of inspiration for me during this project.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
During the tenure of my study of one year Commercial Design Diploma, I learnt about
product design .The design of commercial interiors included important issues –
sustainable design, security and safety, licensing, ethics in the profession, and
professional growth.
Commercial design is the design of any facility that serves business purposes. It can
be a small salon to big boutiques, from road side dhaba to A La Carte Restaurants.
While studying Retail Design, I learnt that if a product is seen then only it sells out.
Like a customer connects his/her lifestyle with a product he/she sees in the window
display, then only the customer gets attracted and thinks of buying. The purchase
decision is increased by a pleasant room temperature, attractive general lighting and
nice fragrance, and suitable background music. I have considered all these points in
the Retail Space that was assigned to me.

Interior Design is the process of shaping the experience of Interior space, through the
manipulation of spatial volume as well as surface treatment. It is a profession that
includes design development, conceptual development, management of project and
execution of design along with the communication skills.
Interior Design is much more than about “ What looks right”. It is about giving a
space that the occupants enjoy and love to inhabit. It is about finding and creating a
cohesive answer to set of problems and dressing the solution so as to unify and
strengthen our experience of the space.
Good Interior Design adds a new dimension to the space. Thoughtful and good
design makes the space easier too understand and experiencing such space lifts the
spirit too.
It is a profession totally different from decorator. People usually have misconception
that interior design is same as decoration.
But designing is an art and science of understanding client’s behavior to create a
more functional space. He works from the beginning.
Interior Designer studies about the Orientation of space, Day lighting, ventilation,
HVAC, Lighting, Landscape etc. whereas decoration is furnishing of space with
beautiful things or accessories.
Interior Design provides various career opportunities as it is a vast field. In the study
course it deals with various topics like space planning, anthropometrics, drafting,
study of materials etc.
Interior design is a multi faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions
are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment solves the
customers problems and link space to business strategies and goals. These solutions
are functional , enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants and are
aesthetically attractive
INTRODUCTION OF INTERIOR DESIGN
Commercial interior design began when the first trade & food stalls opened
somewhere in Mesopotamia or another ancient country. Commercial facilities today
have existed since early human history.
For example- Business was conducted in the great rooms of Egyptian pharaohs & the
places of kings; administrative spaces existed within great cathedrals, and in portions
of residences of craftsmen and tradesmen.
The lodging industry dates back many centuries, beginning with simple inns and
taverns. The Hospitia, which provided food, lodging, and medical care to the ill, were
located adjacent to monasteries. Business places such as inns & shops for the lower
classes were most likely “designed” by tradesmen & craftsmen or whoever owned
them.
As commerce grew, buildings specific to business enterprises such as stores,
restaurants, inns and offices were gradually created or became more common.
For example, offices began to move from the home to a separate location in a
business area in 17th century, numerous bank buildings were constructed in 18th
century, and hostels began taking on their grand sizes and opulence in 19th century.
Commercial interiors changed for many reasons in the second half of the 20th century.
Technological changes in construction & mechanical systems, code requirements for
safety, & electronic business equipment of every kind have impacted the way
business is conducted throughout the world. Consumers of business and institutional
services expect & demand better environment as part of the experience of visiting
stores, hotels, restroom, doctors’ office, and school – everywhere they go to shop or
conduct business.
COMMERCIAL DESIGN
Product design is to create a new product to be sold by a business to its customers. A
very broad concept, it is essentially the efficient and effective generation and
development of ideas through a process that leads to new products
Product design is a set of properties of an artifact, consisting of the discrete
properties of the form (i.e., the aesthetics of the tangible good and/or service) and
the function (i.e., its capabilities) together with the holistic properties of the
integrated form and function.
Product design process: the set of strategic and tactical activities, from idea
generation to commercialization, used to create a product design. In a systematic
approach, product designers conceptualize and evaluate ideas, turning them into
tangible inventions and products. The product designer's role is to combine art,
science, and technology to create new products that people can use. Their evolving
role has been facilitated by digital tools that now allow designers to communicate
visualize, analyze and actually produce tangible ideas in a way that would have taken
greater manpower in the past.
Product design is sometimes confused with (and certainly overlaps with) industrial
design, and has recently become a broad term inclusive of service, software, and
physical product design. Industrial design is concerned with bringing artistic form and
usability, usually associated with craft design and ergonomics together in order to
mass-produce goods. Other aspects of product design include engineering design,
particularly when matters of functionality or utility (e.g. problem-solving) are at issue,
though such boundaries are not always clear.
INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESIGN
There are various product
design processes and many
focus on different aspects.
The process shown below, for
example, is "The Seven
Universal Stages of Creative
Problem-Solving," It helps
designers formulate their
product from ideas. This
process is usually completed
by a group of people, i.e.
industrial designers, field
experts (e.g. prospective
users), engineers, etc.
depending upon the products
involved. The process focuses
on figuring out what is
required, brainstorming
possible ideas, creating mock
prototypes, and then
generating the product.
However, that is not the end
of the process. At this point,
product designers would still
need to execute the idea,
making it into an actual
product and then evaluate its
success by seeing if any
improvements are necessary.

INTRODUCTION FURNITURE DESIGN
Furniture is object of applied arts intended for mobile and permanent furnishing of
residential interiors. Among other things, it serves for storage, work, eating, sitting,
lying down, sleeping and relaxing. Furniture can be used individually, in suites or sets.
A furniture suite is a collection of articles, often of different features, but with a
similar purpose, having identical or very similar aesthetic form. They are made
through the implementation of a specifically determined design work.
A furniture set can contain both individual furniture pieces and furniture suites.
Furniture constituting and different aesthetic and structural forms.
A characteristic feature of a set is that the individual furniture pieces or suites were
created independently of each other and were not the product of a coherent idea of
one designer or team of designers.
Two main groups can be distinguished -
• CASE
• SKELEAL
In terms of purpose the conditions and nature of use, furniture can be divided into
three distinct groups –
• Offices and public building
• Residential rooms in multi –family and free –standing buildings and
• Transport
Furniture belongs to the group
of objects of applied arts, and
many of them have similar
structural, technological,
functional, operational and
aesthetic features. For these
reasons, making a distinctive
and obvious division of
furniture is difficult and to a
large extent depends on the
experience and intuition of the
author such a division. The
main difficulties which may
arise in the future, when
creating new division of
furniture, result primarily
from:-
• The development of new
technologies of production
and use of new materials,
• The use of identical furniture
in various places and in
different conditions
• Coincidence, that various
furniture pieces have similar
functions
• Blurring of boundaries of
clear criteria for the division
of furniture

INSPIRED BY GEOMETRIC SHAPES
Geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with shapes, sizes, positions,
properties of space. It is one of the oldest mathematical science. It was discovered
by the great mathematicians like Thales, Euclid, Pythagoras, Vitruvius. But many
more contribution to the world of geometry can be seen later.
The earliest recorded use of geometry can be traced back to the ancient
Mesopotamia, Indus Valley, Greek & Egypt and it can be seen in their architectures.
For Example: Pyramids of Giza were created only after the study of Geometry
&Golden Ratio.
The Golden Ratio is also termed as the golden section or golden rectangle which is
obtained from the Fibonacci Series.
Being an Interior Designer I have studied “Art & Architecture history” and learned
about different civilizations & their architectures. And also studied different
patterns used in different civilizations like the African Prints, the Chinese Prints,
Islamic Architecture, Indian Architecture, Temple Architecture, and many more. In
my further studies I came to know about Golden Ratio & Fibonacci Series and
studied that every single thing around us is a geometry made with Fibonacci and
golden ratio and even the human body is in golden ratio and that really fascinated
me to learn more about geometry.
I have taken Geometry as Concept for my project that is Product Design.

  • 4. During the tenure of my study of one year Commercial Design Diploma, I learnt about product design .The design of commercial interiors included important issues – sustainable design, security and safety, licensing, ethics in the profession, and professional growth. Commercial design is the design of any facility that serves business purposes. It can be a small salon to big boutiques, from road side dhaba to A La Carte Restaurants. While studying Retail Design, I learnt that if a product is seen then only it sells out. Like a customer connects his/her lifestyle with a product he/she sees in the window display, then only the customer gets attracted and thinks of buying. The purchase decision is increased by a pleasant room temperature, attractive general lighting and nice fragrance, and suitable background music. I have considered all these points in the Retail Space that was assigned to me. SYNOPESIS OF PROJECT

It is a profession that includes design development, conceptual development, management of project and execution of design along with the communication skills. Interior Design is much more than about “ What looks right”. It is about giving a space that the occupants enjoy and love to inhabit. It is about finding and creating a cohesive answer to set of problems and dressing the solution so as to unify and strengthen our experience of the space. Good Interior Design adds a new dimension to the space. Thoughtful and good design makes the space easier too understand and experiencing such space lifts the spirit too. It is a profession totally different from decorator. People usually have misconception that interior design is same as decoration. But designing is an art and science of understanding client’s behavior to create a more functional space. He works from the beginning. Interior Designer studies about the Orientation of space, Day lighting, ventilation, HVAC, Lighting, Landscape etc. whereas decoration is furnishing of space with beautiful things or accessories. Interior Design provides various career opportunities as it is a vast field. In the study course it deals with various topics like space planning, anthropometrics, drafting, study of materials etc. Interior design is a multi faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment solves the customers problems and link space to business strategies and goals. These solutions are functional , enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants and are aesthetically attractive INTRODUCTION OF INTERIOR DESIGN

  • 9. Commercial interior design began when the first trade & food stalls opened somewhere in Mesopotamia or another ancient country. Commercial facilities today have existed since early human history. For example- Business was conducted in the great rooms of Egyptian pharaohs & the places of kings; administrative spaces existed within great cathedrals, and in portions of residences of craftsmen and tradesmen. The lodging industry dates back many centuries, beginning with simple inns and taverns. The Hospitia, which provided food, lodging, and medical care to the ill, were located adjacent to monasteries. Business places such as inns & shops for the lower classes were most likely “designed” by tradesmen & craftsmen or whoever owned them. As commerce grew, buildings specific to business enterprises such as stores, restaurants, inns and offices were gradually created or became more common. For example, offices began to move from the home to a separate location in a business area in 17th century, numerous bank buildings were constructed in 18th century, and hostels began taking on their grand sizes and opulence in 19th century. Commercial interiors changed for many reasons in the second half of the 20th century. Technological changes in construction & mechanical systems, code requirements for safety, & electronic business equipment of every kind have impacted the way business is conducted throughout the world. Consumers of business and institutional services expect & demand better environment as part of the experience of visiting stores, hotels, restroom, doctors’ office, and school – everywhere they go to shop or conduct business. • 11. Product design is to create a new product to be sold by a business to its customers. A very broad concept, it is essentially the efficient and effective generation and development of ideas through a process that leads to new products Product design is a set of properties of an artifact, consisting of the discrete properties of the form (i.e., the aesthetics of the tangible good and/or service) and the function (i.e., its capabilities) together with the holistic properties of the integrated form and function. Product design process: the set of strategic and tactical activities, from idea generation to commercialization, used to create a product design. In a systematic approach, product designers conceptualize and evaluate ideas, turning them into tangible inventions and products. The product designer's role is to combine art, science, and technology to create new products that people can use. Their evolving role has been facilitated by digital tools that now allow designers to communicate visualize, analyze and actually produce tangible ideas in a way that would have taken greater manpower in the past. Product design is sometimes confused with (and certainly overlaps with) industrial design, and has recently become a broad term inclusive of service, software, and physical product design. Industrial design is concerned with bringing artistic form and usability, usually associated with craft design and ergonomics together in order to mass-produce goods. Other aspects of product design include engineering design, particularly when matters of functionality or utility (e.g. problem-solving) are at issue, though such boundaries are not always clear. INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESIGN
  • 12. There are various product design processes and many focus on different aspects. The process shown below, for example, is "The Seven Universal Stages of Creative Problem-Solving," It helps designers formulate their product from ideas. This process is usually completed by a group of people, i.e. industrial designers, field experts (e.g. prospective users), engineers, etc. depending upon the products involved. The process focuses on figuring out what is required, brainstorming possible ideas, creating mock prototypes, and then generating the product. However, that is not the end of the process. At this point, product designers would still need to execute the idea, making it into an actual product and then evaluate its success by seeing if any improvements are necessary. • 13. INTRODUCTION FURNITURE DESIGN Furniture is object of applied arts intended for mobile and permanent furnishing of residential interiors. Among other things, it serves for storage, work, eating, sitting, lying down, sleeping and relaxing. Furniture can be used individually, in suites or sets. A furniture suite is a collection of articles, often of different features, but with a similar purpose, having identical or very similar aesthetic form. They are made through the implementation of a specifically determined design work. A furniture set can contain both individual furniture pieces and furniture suites. Furniture constituting and different aesthetic and structural forms. A characteristic feature of a set is that the individual furniture pieces or suites were created independently of each other and were not the product of a coherent idea of one designer or team of designers. Two main groups can be distinguished - • CASE • SKELEAL In terms of purpose the conditions and nature of use, furniture can be divided into three distinct groups – • Offices and public building • Residential rooms in multi –family and free –standing buildings and • Transport
  • 14. Furniture belongs to the group of objects of applied arts, and many of them have similar structural, technological, functional, operational and aesthetic features. For these reasons, making a distinctive and obvious division of furniture is difficult and to a large extent depends on the experience and intuition of the author such a division. The main difficulties which may arise in the future, when creating new division of furniture, result primarily from:- • The development of new technologies of production and use of new materials, • The use of identical furniture in various places and in different conditions • Coincidence, that various furniture pieces have similar functions • Blurring of boundaries of clear criteria for the division of furniture CLASSIFICATION OF FURNITURE
  • 15. INSPIRED BY GEOMETRIC SHAPES Geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with shapes, sizes, positions, properties of space. It is one of the oldest mathematical science. It was discovered by the great mathematicians like Thales, Euclid, Pythagoras, Vitruvius. But many more contribution to the world of geometry can be seen later. The earliest recorded use of geometry can be traced back to the ancient Mesopotamia, Indus Valley, Greek & Egypt and it can be seen in their architectures. For Example: Pyramids of Giza were created only after the study of Geometry &Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is also termed as the golden section or golden rectangle which is obtained from the Fibonacci Series. Being an Interior Designer I have studied “Art & Architecture history” and learned about different civilizations & their architectures. And also studied different patterns used in different civilizations like the African Prints, the Chinese Prints, Islamic Architecture, Indian Architecture, Temple Architecture, and many more. In my further studies I came to know about Golden Ratio & Fibonacci Series and studied that every single thing around us is a geometry made with Fibonacci and golden ratio and even the human body is in golden ratio and that really fascinated me to learn more about geometry. I have taken Geometry as Concept for my project that is Product Design.
