Everyday Edit
• Everyday Edits for
September
• California Statehood
• Columbia CA 1850's
Time Machine
• Why do we need to
know about this?
• How will knowing about
this make us smarter.
• Where is Hollywood?
• Why is Hollywood
important?
• How do you support
what goes on in
Hollywood?
Homework: Probable Passage
• Use the word
list to write a
paragraph or
passage.
Rules:
• Use ALL of the
words
• Use the words
in the same
order as they
appear on the
list.
• Underline

Filmmaking
• Movies are made from books. Wizard of Oz and Willie Wonka
and the Chocolate Factory are good examples of books made
into movies. Images and words turn into fast pacing as actions
come alive on the big screen. Harry Potter and Jumangi are
examples of fast paced movies made from books. Cat in the
Hat is a short book that had to take up 90 minutes with weird
characters and a convoluted plot. Talents are important: Jim
Carey made a good Cat because he can act maniacal.
Costumes are really important too. Musicians add tone to the
movie making it dramatic or sad or scary or exciting. There is
magic in filmmaking. Filmmakers can make images come to
life on the big screen. Hollywood is a place where dreams
come “true.”
HOMEWORK DUE WEDNESDAY
• In your homework notebook, write about your
favorite movie.
• Title_____________

Timed Partner Reading
• With a partner, read page 882.
• You have 3 minutes.
• You will use this page as a reference to help
you with today’s work, so don’t forget that
you read it!
Timed Reading
• Open your book to page 883. Please read
silently…
• Read pages 883-886.
• You have 5 minutes.
• At the end of those 5 minutes, we will turn
and talk about what we read.
• DO NOT talk until the 5 minute reading time is
up.
• Look at the chart on page 887
• Draw this chart in your notebook. Copy it!
• Do this quickly—you have 3 minutes.
• Don’t talk about it, just do it.
Working with a partner:
• Go back into the article to find Examples and
Explanations to write in and complete your
charts.
• Write this sentence under your chart in your
classwork notebook:
My chart partner is ______(name)________
