2. Prof. Arun Ogale was born in 1942 and brought up at the British Residential Colony of India Security Press at Nasik Road.
3. A small, neat, clean and well planned township with wide tar roads, lots of trees along and around, well laid infrastructure and amenities and sprawling bungalows, it was the first joyous architectural lesson for him.
4. In 1953, his family shifted to Vile Parle, Bombay. Impressed by photographs of work by Corbusier and Picasso, he decided to learn architecture when he was 15 years old.
5. In1965-66, he successfully completed his Government Diploma in Architecture (G.D. Arch, Maharashtra) from the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai. The learning environment at the academy was highly enriched by involvement of proffessionalists like Praveena Mehta, Raja Poredi, DilipPurohit, Ar. Baradiand many others. Ogale was certainly benefited.
6. Charged with aspirations, social commitment and love for architecture, he organized a Seminar on Architecture in Marathi to involve and educate the common man who at the time was new and apprehensive to the field. Eminent Architects A.P. Kanvinde, MadhavAchwal, V.S. Gore, Raja Poradi, PrabhatPatki participated in this event where Prof. Ogale interviewed them in Marathi.
7. This event was organised at the LokmanyaSevaSangh, a well known social and cultural organisation at Ville Parle, Mumbai in 1967. This event was attended by Around 800 people.
8. Since then he has written many articles on Life, Art and Architecture, his first article published in Maharashtra Times was titled “ VastushastranyanchyaMulakhati“.
16. Prof. Ogalehas written more than 200 articles on Life, Art and Architecture in Maharashtra Times, Loksatta, Illustrated Weekly Of India, Satyakatha, Sadhna, Kirloskar, Vivek and many other newspapers and magazines. Maharashtra’s well known intellectual magazine called “Satyakatha” invited Prof. Ogale to write and article on internationally known Architect, Walter Gropius, one of the pioneers in Modern Architecture. When he passed away in 1969, Satyakatha took the congnizence of his contribution and requested Ogale to write a piece on him.
17. On the eve of Olympic Games in 1969, Mexico, the Olympic games committee had organized an essay competition. 6 essays were selected out of that Ogale’s essay on ‘Professional Aspirations and Tendencies of Young Architects’ was adjudged as the best.
18. On the occasion of 25th anniversary of Maharashtra State, a special volume on Maharashtra’s culture, heritage was published by the Government of Maharashtra. Prof. Ogale was invited to write an essay on Architecture of Maharshtra. Learned editor of Maharashtra Times Mr. GovindTalwalkar edited the volume.
19. Maharashtra’s quality publishers, “Kohtavale Publications” invited Prof. Ogale to write an essay on Interior Design to include in their Publication called “ SansarGatha”. This publication was meant for newly married couples for guidance in all aspects of their married life.
20. Prof. Ogale was selected by the National Design Institute, Ahmadabad in 1967, where he worked in landscape and architectural department. Ahmadabad was an eye-opener to Prof. Ogale as modern architectural movement prospered at Ahmadabad during that time.
21. Ahmadabad had four Corbusiers buildings and a free learning school like CEPT. NID had not only dept. of architecture but graphics, industrial design, film, photography, fabric design. In every department Ogale worked with the eminent people in the field which broadened his vision. Visits by Ar. Louis I Kahn for IIM project, his working methodology, his lectures, highly impressed Ogale and enlightened him. NID played a very important role in Ogale’s life for developing understanding about life and architecture. Ogale also met BalkrishnaDoshi at Ahmadabad and has a very good association with him since then.
22. With his newfound experience, he joined Ar. Kanvinde in his office. Kanvinde’s architecture, with its purity and originality and close integration of technology with creativity, it was an important influence in his professional career.
23. During his stay at Ahmadabad and Delhi, Ogale travelled Gujrat, Rajasthan, MP, CG, UP, Chandigarh, Agra, FatepurSikri also Simla, Kashmir and other nearby places. He did extensive amount of photography and had a very close experience of life of the people in these places. He also studied historical monuments, modern architecture also climate in those regions. With lot of enriched knowledge and perception also a kind of an insight, he returned to Bombay in 1970.
24. In 1970, Prof. Ogale returned to Mumbai to start his own practice.
25. After 18 years of individual practice, he was invited to become the Director of Architecture by Structwel Designers and Consultants Pvt. Ltd. His association with eminent structural engineer R.N. Raikar opened the large door of innovative structural engineering and all other aspects like repairs, restoration, conservation, litigation, valuation and more. He also executed several large scale architectural projects – housing, industrial, educational, health and hygiene and exhibitions, etc.
40. In 1972, architects registration act was in the process with the parliament. When Ogale learned that government diploma in architecture in Maharashtra is not included into the eligibility list of COA. He organized Young Architect Association with his colleague Ram Kewalramani and fought a battle with the IIA and Government. Finally, the Architects Act of 1972 was passed along with the G.D.Arch(Maharashtra).
41. Ogale was also nominated on the very first council established under the Architects Act of 1972.

43. In 1972, Ogale married VijayaLagu giving birth to a lovely daughter and son.
44. Apart from his educational work, now his grandsons keep him occupied.
46. Ogale was elected on the council of the Indian Institute of Architects.
47. Ogale was elected on the council of IIA and worked for IIA for 16 years on council, also became the Joint Honorary secretary and finally the vice president of the IIA. He contributed to the successful organization of platinum jubilee celebration of IIA. Ogale also worked on the education board of IIA as secretary under Prof. MadhavAchwal and RushiKhambata, finally as a chairman of the BOAE, he along with his colleagues worked on the IIA examinations and implemented the examination during his tenure.
63. Academy of Architecture, Mumbai Invited Prof. Ogale as visiting lecturer under the team coordinator Ar. DilipPurohit. This was really a million dollar opportunity for the young mind as DilipPurohit was a versatile personality having interest in every visual and performing arts. Ar. Purohit exposed his young team of teachers to the entire spectrum of life and art. This is how Ogale’s life was enriched with the extraordinary experiences of teaching and learning in the class as also outside the class.
64. Introduction of subject Basic Design at Sir J.J. College of Architecture Ogale was invited at Sir J.J. College of architecture, Bombay for introducing a course in Basic Design in 1972. He worked out a full fledged , elaborate syllabi for Basic Design and another subject called total architecture. He also worked out a attitude orientation programme for the first year students. Eminent persons like YashwantChoudhary and V.S. Gore highly appreciated Ogale’s efforts.
66. Prof. Arun Ogale along with Ar. DilipPurohit and others, worked on ‘Framework for Architectural Education’. This Framework charted out the details from processing architectural education from 10th std. to PHD level. Framework contained various streams, subjects, their unit contribution up to the PHD level. Framework also describes faculty required, principal's duties, etc. This exercise also suggested scale of salary to faculty member, also how much built up and open to sky area is required for a new school. This framework that time was found to be very useful for establishing new schools. In one of the international conferences, this exercise was acknowledged and copies were requested by delegates of Pakistan, Ceylon, Bangladesh etc.

68. Ogale retired from professional practice and settled in Pune in 2001. By accident, he started teaching again as a visiting lecturer at SCOA, BKPS, MMCA and BNCA from 2002-2006. Finally he settled at BNCA as a core faculty (Senior professor) and in charge of the research and development cell from 2006 onwards.
69. Restructuring of Education Programme B. N. College of Architecture, Pune. Prof. Arun Ogale carried out the detailed study of Pune University syllabus and importantly the education programme conducted at the BNCA. The outcome of this exercise was the document called “RESTRUCTING OF EDUCATIONAL PRIGRAMMES AT BNCA”.
82. Prof. Ogale worked out and prepared a fresh manual for the settlement studies. Last year, the programme was implemented at the BNCA and settlement studies were carried out at the tribal areas of Thane District
85. Various Events and Lectures conducted under the Innovative Educational Programme specially designed for the enlightenment of students by Prof. Arun Ogale at BNCA.
102. Prof. Ogale’s important contribution to architectural education is that he has trained more than 15 architects as a teacher in Basic Design and Architectural Design in Pune alone. This is like creating ones own faculty.
105. First ever programme of lecture series on architecture in Marathi on AIR was conceptualized by Prof. Ogale and he also delivered lectures. This programme was recorded by Mr. MangeshPadgaonkar. Prof. Ogale was invited for the first solo interview in Marathi on ‘interior design’ in one of the most prestigious programmes of the time, ‘Sunder MajheGhar’ on Doordarshan. He was interviewed by Prof. MohiniVarde and the programme was directed by SuhasiniMulgaonkar. Prof. Ogale, along with Prof MadhavDevbhakt, interviewed eminent architect Shri A.P. Kanvinde on Doordarshan’s most prestigious programme titled as ‘Pratibha and Pratima’.
106. Prof. Ogale also appeared on a popular television talk show ‘PriyaTendulkar’s show’ on two occasions. Prof. Ogale also actively contributed to environmental and conservation projects, more importantly land army projects i.e. conservation of water along with sahyadriparbat belt which was conceptualized by social activist late ShriDiwakarAgashe. Prof. Ogale was actively involved in many social and cultural organizations in Mumbai. He also conducted a talk cum discussion on architecture on the occasion of annual convention of ‘Marathi VishwaParishad’ held at VigyanBhawan New Delhi in early 90s. Ogale also carried out environmental studies of old Bombay and new Bombay.
