We want energy.... Who could say “no” to building local talent, and igniting technology innovation through Agile!? So you have been using Agile for a while but now you need to share your experience and further enhance your knowledge and professional network. Where do you go? Agile user groups serve a critical function to promote Agile at the community level. For local professionals, they have a way to connect with like-minded Agilists and learn. For local employers, the user group provides a safe unbiased avenue to promote Agile adoption. For Agile consultants and trainers, this is an opportunity to contribute their knowledge and gain recognition. Sounds like a win-win? That’s because it is! These communities however are only as successful as their members make them. While getting together to form a group is initially fun, pretty quickly people struggle to find the time to participate and stay engaged and before you know it the group fades into distant memory. This talk, shares the recent experience of one of the fastest growing Agile user groups. In less than 2 years this group went from zero to over 500+ members. That is “active” members! Over 50 meetups, 2 local conferences, and a solid base for sustainable growth and activity. It is the South Florida Agile Association (SFAA). We keep expanding our venues, yet our events remain sold out weeks before the events! How do we it? How did we start, and how do we sustain the spark and this energy in the community??
