 IDEOLOGY
   SOURCES
Introduction
 3 main sources
 Neoliberalism
 Communtarianism
 Ethical socialism
Neoliberalism
 New Labour – maintain macroeconomic
stability as a basis for sustainable growth –
control public expenditure in line with
    projected growth targets
 Neoliberal approach reflected in:
    …………………………………………………
    …………………………………………………
    …………………………………….
Communitarianism
 New Labour – individuals owe something to the
community ie. Individuals should be encouraged
to give something back to society which has
    nourished them
 1990s – Will Hutton – stakeholder society-
    importance of community,reciprocity,and
    belonging
 Examples of New Labour’s communitarianism:
    …………………………………………………………
    ………………………………
Ethical socialism
 More concerned with community citizenship and
social justice compared to democratic socialists
    who advocate equality
 Accepts the need for the private sector in the
delivery of public services – pragmatic approach
towards the means – best solution
 Individuals must be encouraged to take
responsibility for their own lives than to rely on the
state to create opportunities and eliminate social
    inequality
