1. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. My magazine is mainly aimed at young adults (males and females aged 15-
24), and is mainly for the working class. In terms of occupation I’d expect
them to be students, mainly at college or university, or be in the final years
of secondary school. The audience is open to all types of ethnicities, but is
mainly aimed at the Asian and Black community in East London. From my
audience feedback I found out that my magazine is dominated by female
models, which would mainly attract the female audience. Due to the
audience being young adults, I didn’t make use of any slang since this
wouldn’t be appropriate for them so I would say that I used mid to high lexis.
3. The messages and values attached
to the representation of the
images is that females deserve just
as much respect as men, and they
aren’t just sex objects…. This is
made clear by the way my model
is dressed – all covered up. I also
aimed my magazine and men by
the way my model is posing in
some of the images, which would
intrigue men, and encourage them
into wanting to purchase the
magazine. The way the model is
dressed is quite casual and her
makeup is also very simple to
make the readers feel as if they
are able to relate to the model and
her life style.
4. As far as the representation of
the social groups I chose to focus
on, I think I put across a positive
one, since the model, my
contents, and my article have no
negative aspects about the
certain social groups. As far as
stereotypes are concerned, I
think I challenged them by using
a Asian model, because this isn’t
normal for and R&B
magazine, however I wanted to
make my magazine different, and
I thought by using an Asian
model, who is also Asian, would
attract the same audience, but
also be out there for a different
audience.
