Rayward (1996) provides a historical overview of information science, suggesting
that information science as a distinct discipline emerged from part of library science and
part of computer science (Rayward, P.8), concluding “that the history of information
science is an historical interdiscipline and those interested in it need to draw on a range
of related historical studies such as the history of science and technology, the history of
printing and publishing, and the history of information institutions such as libraries,
archives and museum” (Rayward P.3). If information science as a field indeed was
shaped by things from library and computer science, it is only reasonable to suggest that
the problems of treatment by information science have come from here, suggesting that
even the understanding of what information is must have been influenced by them.

If information science as a field indeed was shaped by things from library and computer science, it is only reasonable to suggest that the problems of treatment by information science have come from here, suggesting that even the understanding of what information is must have been influenced by them. âê¿Ùæ çß™ææÙ ·¤æ °ðçÌãæçâ·¤ çßã»æßÜæð·¤Ù ÂýSÌéÌ ·¤ÚÌð ãé° ÚðßæÇü (1996) Ùð Øã ×Ì ÃØ€Ì ç·¤Øæ ãñ ç·¤ °·¤ çßçàæC çßáØ ·ð¤ M¤Â ×ð´ âê¿Ùæ çß™ææÙ ·¤æ ©Î÷Öß ¥´àæÌÑ ÂéSÌ·¤æÜØ çß™ææÙ ¥æñÚ ¥´àæÌÑ ·´¤ŒØêÅÚ çß™ææÙ âð ãé¥æ ãñÐ ÚðßæÇü Ùð çÙc·¤áü M¤Â ×ð´ Øã ×æÙæ ç·¤ ÒÒâê¿Ùæ çß™ææÙ ·¤æ §çÌãæâ °·¤ °ðçÌãæçâ·¤ ¥´ÌÚ- çßáØ ãñ, ÌÍæ §â×ð´ L¤ç¿ Ú¹Ùð ßæÜæð´ ·¤æð ¥Ùð·¤æð´ â´Õ´çÏÌ °ðçÌãæçâ·¤ çßáØ Ÿæð‡æè ·¤æ âãæÚæ ÜðÙæ ãæð»æ, Áñâð - çß™ææÙ °ß´ Âýæñlæðç»·¤è ·¤æ §çÌãæâ, ×éÎý‡æ ÌÍæ Âý·¤æàæÙ ·¤æ §çÌãæâ ÌÍæ ÂéSÌ·¤æÜØæð´, ¥çÖÜð¹æ»æÚæð´, â´»ýãæÜØæð âÚè¹ð â´SÍæÙæð´ ·¤æ §çÌãæâÐÓÓ ØçÎ ¥ŠØØÙ ·ð¤ °·¤ çßáØ ·ð¤ M¤Â ×ð´ âê¿Ùæ çß™ææÙ ·¤æ çß·¤æâ ÂéSÌ·¤æÜØ °ß´ ·´¤ŒØêÅÚ çß™ææÙ ×ð´ ¥´ÌçÙüçãÌ Ìˆßæð´ âð ãé¥æ Ìæð Øã ×æÙÙæ ãè Øéç€ÌØé€Ì ãæð»æ ç·¤ âê¿Ùæ çß™ææÙ mæÚæ â×SØæ¥æð´ ·¤æ â×æÏæÙ °ß´ â´S·¤æÚ Öè ßãè´ âð ¥æØæ ãñÐ §ââð Øã Öè ÁæçãÚ ãæðÌæ ãñ ç·¤ âê¿Ùæ çß™ææÙ €Øæ ãñ, §â·¤è â×Ûæ ·¤æð Öè §‹ãæðÙð ÂýÖæçßÌ ç·¤Øæ ãñÐ 1.
